No accelerator
I have been having some issues with my 2001 E270 CDI. Occasionally while sitting idle (e.g. at stop lights) the car will begin to idle roughly and basically, even if I put my foot flat on the floor the car will only crawl along at 5km/hr (this has happened 5 times in the past few months). Additionally, about 60% of the time when I start the car it will idle very roughly, pushing the accelerator does nothing and usually the engine will cut out in about 20 seconds. I managed to get a video of this on the weekend (YouTube link:
I don't have a code scanner, if anyone in Australia can point me in the right direction on the best one to get I would be super grateful!
other info:
- no warning light has come up on the dash.
- changed the fuel filter after the first incident of losing acceleration.
- oil/oil filters/air filters have all been changed in the last six months.
Apart from these issues the car runs great and I love it very much. I have just graduated from university and haven't secured a job yet, so I am praying there's something I can do myself to have at least a semi-reliable car when I start a job. I will take it to a mechanic once I get my savings back up. But currently, I'm scared to drive it in case it blows up lol.
I have ample time on my hands at the moment, so I'm hoping someone can help me out here before I give in at take it to a mechanic.
Take your car to GOOD diesel mechanic, you can skip the scanner but just to hook up scanner will cost you, and any repair will be costly as well. Not sure how's things down under, but at least here in US, you need to sell one of your vital organ to go to the MB dealer for any repair.
Throwing money on parts or repair you don't need will run up the cost as well. So it's time to make decision here. What you want to spend your money on. Scanner or mechanic. Getting the scanner won't solve your problem. It MAY tell you what's wrong. Nothing more. Take them to mechanic have 50/50 chance of getting your problem fix. If it's a good diesel mechanic, that will go up to 80/20,
I have some experience with diesel engine and have usual suspect. Normally, when diesel engine does that, it has a problem with fuel system but I'll stop at that. And please remember, that's usual problem and not always.
