Exclamation Noisy Tires

I have a 215/55 R /16 tires on my car. Blizzark brand name. They look like snow tires to me. They are alittle noisy when driving. The thread is fine. But it appears it never had rotation in a while. WOuld balance and rotation make the tires quieter on the road? Thank u

Bridgestone makes the Blizzak brand of snow tire. So that’s probably your problem. Although they are louder then regular tires, they will probably come in handy this winter in KC. Then you can get some new wheels/tires in the spring.

Edzacry rite rk,in fact I almost bought those for my ride, but the Pirellis were supposed to be rated quieter on dry roads.

Balancing or rotation has nothing to do with the problem.

That noise is caused by the "aggressive" tread patten these types of tires must have to
be affective in winter type road conditions.
This is the price you must pay in order to have the added traction provided by these tires,
and the reason many people in your area probably run two sets of wheels and tires.

Have you ever noticed how noisey some of those jacked up PUs are?
Notice how their oversized tires' tread patterns appear. See what I mean?
The more aggressive the pattern, the more noise they generate.
I don't see how some of these guys can tolerate that noise!

Green E is right. The long and the short of it is that the snows are"aggressive" by nature, cause they bite their way thru the *****.Therefore, the noise on pavement. And having gone sideways with a brand new Benz, thinking it was over,in an instant,I became a believer that these cars need help in the snowy weather. If you dont get much snow,,,try the "performance all seasons" for quietness and traction.

Blizzaks

I just put mine on for the winter, and I "hate" 'em! They work well enough in the snow, but the ride & noise compared to the summer tires is terrible. This will be the last winter for 'em, and I will be trying Nokian snow tires next winter here in God's country; while still noisy because of the aggressive tread, I hope they ride and sound a lot better.

I just put Dunlop M3 snow on both my E320 and my E500 and they feel just like summer tires (a little bit less traction in the dry, but acceptable). They are very quiet and comfortable. I don't know how they are in the snow yet, but I hear they are good in the snow also.

Great Info

Thank you all of the above. All makes sense. I hate these fricking tires. They WERE ON the car when I bought it 3 months ago. There is no way I will buy snow tires on this car ever again. KC snow is not that bad, they do a great job cleaning up the streets and I live very close to work anyway. I will however follow your suggestions and replace these tires with mechillen MV4+ for much quieter ride with a perfromance all season in th espring of 2005. Thank you all.

I use to live in the KC area. Originally I lived and worked in Overland Park, and I would agree that they did a good job of quickly clearing the snow off the roads. When I got a different job that had a much longer commute, I discovered that not all the municipalities were as efficient. I have the 4matic, so I don’t know how your model handles in the snow, but apparently the previous owner of your car thought it needed snow tires. Makes you wonder why.

Cool Minnesota car

It was a Minnesota car before I bought it. The local dealer bought it from Minnesota and it made it to KC area. That explains the snow tires !!!.

Jeez, I hate snow and cold weather. Thank God we don't get much here. Right now it is almost 70 in mid-December! I LOVE GLOBAL WARMING!

My E430 is very scary in ice and snow with my summer Michelins. That baby stays in the garage. My Porsche handles pretty decent in it since the transaxle is between the rear wheels.

As far North as I ever wanna be...........

Here in CT we get the rotten combination of snow and freezing rain (read ICE) often. I bought studded Nokia Hakkapalita snows for my '01 E320. You don't know noise until you try these bad boys!!
