Question Water in Trunk

I've noticed the well on the right side of the trunk is always damp. I've tried blowing out the drain from below the area, but to no avail. The well has been wet/damp for a few months now. I know that this will lead to rust.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it difficult to remove the felt lining? Any ideas where the water comes from? Does anyone know how to stop it?

I've had lots of dampness in the well on the passenger side of my 98 E320 trunk too. There are two round rubber groumets at the bottom of the well; you can see them from underneath the car. Also there are a about three small plastic plugs in the trunk's rain drain gutter; my car's right fender had been damaged and the body shop replaced these plugs but didn't use gasket sealer (I did myself to solve that gutter leak problem). Also check to see that water is not leaking into the trunk from around the edges of the tail lights. Good luck.

This is a recall... Go to your dealership to get it sealed. I had mine done like awhile ago

I noticed that the trunk has been designed very bad. Every time I open up my trunk and it is raining all the water slides from the window into the trunk and gets all of my stuff wet!!! This morning it snowed and when i opened up my trunk, snow came in as well! I am not talking about 3 inches of snow, only about a 1/4 of an inch. This may ad to your dampness. I will see if my trunk is also damp.
