Exclamation Fog Light Melt down

I just discovered that on my 2000 E320 which I bought a month ago that the driver side fog light wiring melted from what it looks like using an H1 fog bulb from sylvania which according t the maint records was done at an MB dealer !!!. Why would the wiring melt where it hooks to the bulb? Is there a web site I can order the wiring from and is the correct bulb to use? Thank you

I see even the post 99 cars have a wiring problem with the fog lights..

I think it must MB'z wear and tear policy to have their things melt down in order for us to spend wads of cash just maintaining it.

mine melted down too (harness) but still fucntioning..just waiting for it to go and i might have an excuse to get the clear lamps like doc..

fixed this issue w/o any addiotnal cost. I finally got th eold lamp out and used a lubricant to get it out and put another H1 55w and it worked. cost = $7.00.

I think you should go to the dealer and get the harness changed to a heavier duty model, which should be covered under your warranty.I had 2 sets of harnesses replaced before they used a heavy duty one,and voila...no more fog problems.

I guess you're saying your 4/50 warranty is over? Because if it wasnt, they would do it.

Dang ,,,that blows.Be advised, whether you use stock bulbs,or aftremarket PIAA,Philips, etc you will undoubtedly have another failure unless the harness gets changed, its the way it is.When I spoke to the Service Rep and expressed my displeasure over the prospect of paying for the repair after warranty, they did the heavy harness install on both sides, and now all I do is change a bulb now and then.FYI>
