Mercedes-Benz does not use timing belts (yet). They use timing chains, which with a few exceptions, have been very long lived. The accessory belt, which drives the alternator, P/S pump, water pump, etc. requires replacement when visual inspection shows signs of cracking, fraying or other deterioration.
