Where to find extra bright backup bulbs.

Anyone know if it's possible to put brighter bulbs in a 97 E320 for driving reverse? Is there a vendor that sells these bulbs you can recommend?

Even at 50 watts, they may not be too bright, especially if the fluted, small reflectors do not take advantage of the brigher lamps. So be aware that shy of doing a retrofit or heavier mod, you may end up just paying for the bulbs and finding them lacking.

Yeah, new design LEDs can really help. But what a dunce, I was automatically presuming that e320auto wanted them to project brighter light to use when backing up. This, from a 4x4 driver. :-) It's likely that you just wanted them more visible to the drivers behind you, too. LEDs may work just fine.

97e320auto with brighter backup bulbs

Yeah, actually what I am looking for is better light for backing up. I found some 50w 1156 type bulbs that I'm going to try. At one time I had the DesignTech 50w halogens in my Volvo. They were really good. This time I'm going to try the 50w 1156 in my E320. Anyone use the Designtechs in their Mercedes? What about the 50W 1156?

Thanks.

Be warned that W210s have a history of melted housings (giving you annoying bulb out signals) and melted wiring. A higher wattage bulb will increase the chances. A safer option might be to wire up the passenger side rear fog lamp (can be easily done) and turn on the rear fogs when reversing - that way you will have the choice of having them on or not, just a thought.......
