Performance Chip
Hi,
I am thinking about remapping my ECU.
From ebay I saw two interesting products.
Anyone have any opinion?
Thanks!

Eh, Leading company my butt, I've never heard of those companies.
My solution is to call Evosport and ask what they have for your car. They are reputable, and they know what they are doing.

I've had chiptuning done by Wetterauer, Speedtuning USA, and Jetchip. All three worked flawlessly, provided noticeable power increases, and mpg stayed about the same. On my E300, I took out the ECU and sent it to Oliver at Speedtuning. He does the tuning that day and next day airs your ECU back to you the same day. It helps to have a second vehicle to drive Anyway I know a few and have read about several (more than 20) people getting and loving speedtuning chips. He actually may have several different power level upgrades for your particular model. Some engines can handle the more agressive programs if they have fueling and intake improvements done. For the most part though, normally aspirated gasoline engines stand to gain the least from chiptuning. Turbocharged cars can gain significant boosts, and diesels even more. My chip got me +42hp at the wheels and 60 more pounds of torque on a dyno. The butt dyno is also very happy.

Diffusion - I'm not a high performance expert and don't claim to be, just sharing my experiences. I can't seem to leave anything stock for very long, so I have tried a few things.
I think it's hard to answer your question if by one time upgrade you mean just upgrading one part. Almost every mod you do seems to require other mods to support it. Add larger injectors you want a fueling map in the ECM to support it - then you probably need a larger fuel pump, gauge, etc, etc. A lot of people like to throw on bolt on parts without much thought to the effects they will have on the rest of the vehicle. My advice is to decide what hp level you are going for and plan around that. If you want big hp, plan on a lot of mods, not one. If you want a small but noticeable hp gain, get a chiptuning program, a better intake, and exhaust system. Sorry to say that dropping in a K&N filter or just an intake or exhaust by themselves will not get you the improvement you're looking for. Don't believe the ads saying 15-20hp from exhaust, 15-20 from intake , and believe yo'ure going to have +40hp. Probably more like 5-10 total on a stock engine, and that won't really be noticeable. Also if you do a significant amount of mods to increase the performance, I'd recommend slightly shortening your oil drain interval, or doing an analysis to determine proper intervals.
In my E I have been typically changing the oil every 7500, but since the chiptuning I am dropping to 5000 mile changes. In my specific vehicle, the chiptuning adds a lot of fueling, which in turn creates more soot loading in the oil. There is only a very small difference (I always do oil analysis), however I'm finicky

The performance chips typically never lean out your air fuel mixture. They typically increase fueling, increase injector duration, and increase the engine's timing, all very close to the stock parameters. Some of these changes will require the use of higher octane fuel, and sometimes more airflow in/out to compensate for the additional heat/timing.

Steg, I would love to see your car. I am just affraid that when I start modding my car, I will start having mechanical problems, and not to mention sensor problems.
Since we can't be too far off, I would love to see what you did and how it looks, etc.

Sure Diff,we should be seeing all the local Tri-Staters at the meet we're looking to have on 1/29,(check events forum)try to make it.
I have'nt had any sort of problems with any mods so far, thank God,cause like you Im pretty particular about the car.
