Vibrating Sunroof Shade
I've noticed some vibrating noise coming from the sunroof shade when the roof is all the way open on my E430. It rattles near the rear of the sunroof. My E320 service loaner had the same problem. Really annoying. Can anyone help?

I don't have any answers but I think have the same; the one noise I've found and I recently tracked it down to the same place, only hear it on bumps that produce a bounce and it sounds like the head rests are loose only seems to come from the headliner?
I was going to sit in the back while someone else drives and try to track it down, have you done this? I agree that it does seem to only be produced when the sunroof is open, and not if you leave the sunroof closed but the shade open?

I've taken it in the get it serviced and they replaced the whole headliner. It looked like it resolved the problem for a little while but it's back now. I know it the sunroof shade that's making the noise. Have you taken yours in to get that problem resolved?

Forget it guys, it won't go away. I have it too on my '02E430.
If you bang on the headliner in the rear, you'll hear it. I, too, thought it was the set of headrests bouncing but it IS the shade banging against the floor of the headliner. I didn't have this problem with an older 400E. It seems the shade's gotten bigger, heavier and MB's skimped on the material they're using; then didn't add thicker channeling material. Then, with the 17" low profile tires that they recommend pumping to 36PSI, forget it. I have an appointment for them to fix it, we'll see what they say. I also have squeaks coming from the inside of the middle harness reel. Anyone have this too?

Today, (at 1200 miles) I hear a new rattle in the rear. After investigating further, I find an attachment bolt securing a black box on top of the left rear fender loose. I had to remove the liners to find it and secure the bolt.
It's embarassing that the quality of assembly has deteriorated. I wonder if the Chrysler merger had anything to do with it all. Interior panels on my '99 ML430 were literally falling off! Main reason why I replaced it with the E, supposedly assembled in Germany. Look what I got.

I have had 2 W210's and both have had headliner rattles. I had the entire headliner removed and extra padding added by the dealer on my 98 E430 but it just caused another rattle. This is funny - The headliner rattled at certain bass notes - 60 hertz (cycles) or below. The Mercedes Tech's referred to my car as the 'Decibel Car" because I used a High Fidelity Test CD with bass tones to locate the rattles. Now my 2002 E55 sunshade rattles over bumps when pushed all the way back. Terrible engineering on the headliner.
