E420 kudos

Recently purchased a 97 E420. This car really acts like it wants to chase somebody. It is fast off the line, built like a tank, suspension is tighter than anything I have seen, quiet inside, very assuring ride/ handling, etc.
I am amazed. Is this a sleeper or what? What do the newer models add, are there any problems to look out for, what mods do you really need, and when does the pixie dust wear off?

Have the same car

It is an awesome cruiser. We drive it from Atlanta to Naples, Fl twice a year. A couple of problem areas are the instrument and parking lamps, rear power window motors, door retainer straps, and driver's seat frame is weak. We have 90,000 plus miles and it is still stong and solid.

I have had my 97 e420 for almost 2 months. I love it. So far I have not had anything break on it. The previous owner has already replace both rear window regulators in the last 10k miles so hopefully I wont have to worry about that for awhile. Good luck with your e420...I still like the 420 better than the newer e430, but only because the 420 engine is a better engine. Ask any MB mechanic..

Whats this about the 430 engine not being as good? Why do you say that?
I need to know what to look out for on mine.

By the way, do you have any pics of your chrome rims?

There is nothing wrong with the e430 engine...just the mechanics tend to like the m119 motor better. My mechanic said that m119 of the e420 has been around longer and is one of the most reliable V8's ever produced. The modular V8 (E430)and V6 (e320) were designed to save money to make the e class cars more affordable. Dont get me wrong...I am not bashing the e430...I like the hell out of them..as with any V8 Bens...I am just going on what I have heard...

I will try to post some pics of the chome wheels...They are in perfect condition and the Michelines only have 8k miles on them.
