$400 to change spark plugs?
I think I know the answer to my question, but I guess now I need to know how bad. Am I getting raped on this by my dealership? I have an '02 E320 with less than 21k miles. Thanks all.

Sparkplugs are considered "wear and tear" items and not covered under your new car warranty. However, unless something is wrong with the car, you shouldn't need new plugs. Check your owner manuals for the plug life.

Yeah, I talked to another guy from a different Mercedes dealership. He said that they should be good for 100k miles, and if there was something wrong with them where they needed to be changed at 20k, then it would be covered by the warranty. Still working on this...

This has got to be a joke that your dealer is trying to play on you... How close are we to April Fools Day? I have a 97 E320 and changed the plugs myself last fall for around $50. I bought the plugs for $6 each from the dealer becuase my local shops were out. Then I had to buy a socket extension and some lube. It took around 30 minutes to do. It's as easy as changing a light bulb. Unless the 02 is significantly different from my 97, then you are getting bent over big time!

if you are changing sparkplugs by yourself, make sure that you use proper spark plugs for your car. Many ppl buy some unnecessary plugs where it may cause knocking. Spark plugs are desined to omit certain temperature, and if it overheats the area then your gas will combust prematurely and cause you to loose power.

The I6 (96-97) is very easy to change sparkplug, and you only need 6 (one for each cylinder). From 98 on (V6, M112 Engine), it's PITA to change sparkplug, not to mention you have 2 for each cylinder.
I paid $240 to have my replaced ($10x12 part + $120 labor). Sparkplug are good for 90K. Dealer even refuse to replace before 90K mile.

Well, about 30 minutes after I had agreed to the spark plug change, I tried calling my service advisor back, but was unable to reach him. I called his cell, his work line, talked to the receptionist, etc.. I wanted to tell him that I wanted to hold off on that until I spoke with him further, and I left messages stating such.
He calls this morning and told me that he didn't get my message until late, and that the job had already been completed. He said that he would give me a nice discount off of the service, and I really hope that it is indeed "nice", as the guy seems very professional, courteous, and hospitable.
I'll update again tomorrow after I get her back.
