Birds Eye view!!?
I was just in the dealer NYC dropping of my car for service. Waiting for a shuttle I sat in a 04 S class car on the floor turned on the navigation and low and behold BIRDS EYE VIEW! I than showed this to the service guy and he was baffled, never seen this before. He went and got another service guy, and both scratched there heads. When I pick up my car they will have an answer to this ( remember 2004 car ). Any one know about this or have this feature?

Bird's Eye View is built in to some navigation systems - it depends on whether the Nav system was built by Blaupunkt or Becker.
The nav systems on newer E class cars is Becker, it doesn't have Bird's eye view. I believe that the S-class is still using a Blaupunkt system (which does have the Bird's Eye View, I guess). There are other posts on this forum that detail MB's decision to move from Blaupunkt to Becker. I have tried both systems and I prefer the Becker Navigation by far - so hopefully you won't feel too robbed by the absence of Bird's Eye View!

04 S-class has the same DVD navigation system as the 211. Was this a DVD based system or the older CD version?

I don’t know CD OR DVD I had to leave, but I will find out when I pick up my car. BTW, It did seem a little slow when I was playing with it in terms of the graphics loading compared to my DVD based system.

The new S-class COMAND is made by Siemens with components from Becker. It is not made by Blaupunkt (that is the older COMAND).
Also as pointed out in the referenced thread, all the COMANDs have bird's eye view, because you're looking straight down on a map. I think the term used is usually "3-D view" which corresponds to the two "2-D" views in the W211 COMAND.
Alpine-based navigations (in the M-class since 2000; now a new version in the 2005+ M-, G-, C- and CLK-classes) have had a "sort of" 3-D view for a while.

The 05 Sl500 I am getting has the birds-eye feature. I drove the car over to the beach this weekend and as I went up the coast it shows the water the display. I really liked the view, it makes the navigation easier to use.

Long time no speak, that is excellent news, will you be posting it on the other forum?
So if they are fetching out version 5 in the Spring, will it have the TMC upgrade for the UK market?
Take care,
John

as people don't seem to want to read a linked thread with the answers:
S-class - CL and SL DVD comands are manufactured by Siemens...those all have "3D view" aka "birdseye view".
The E-class DVD comand is manufactured by Becker and the unit is the same as the ones in the CLS and the SLK (except for the faceplate) and these do not have "3D view".

greetingz,
3D is not so interesting for me as I'm not into video games, but CONSTANT display of street, city, state and ETA, as exist in ML and some other classes, would be welcome additions.
So to be clear, this post is looking for any projections of feature additions to the 05 E-Class Nav that will be done through software upgrade.
