Those of you that have the Treo 650. Can you use/does it have MSN Messenger on it?

I know the Pocket PC's versions have them, but am unsure about the Treo 650.

Thanks.

The 650 comes with a messaging application, but since I don't use it, I don't know what it does. A post on the Treocentral forum says that it supports Yahoo and AOL (AIM) IM, but not MSN Messenger. For that, you need a third-party Palm OS application such as VeriChat (US$25).

I finally decided that I'm going with the Treo 650. I took my wife to cingular today to show her what it looks like, and she loved it better than the MPX 220. Suprisingly, cingular doesn't list the MPX on their website anymore. Anyways, I'll have to wait till 4/16 because that's when my contract with T-Mobile ends.

No my question is, what applications do you recommend I get? I use outlook for emails, and word for processing. Any other cool ones?

The 650 comes with a decent suite of applications in the box (in ROM, to be technical) including a capable browser (Blazer) and E-mail program (VersaMail), as well as a conduit to synchronize with Outlook. The 650 also comes with Documents to Go, which lets you both read and edit Word and Excel files. If the calendar function is important, you should check out DateBk5, by Pimlico Software - it improves on the included calendar program in many ways. If you think that PDA games are limited to Tetris clones and Bejewelled, prepare to be amazed by Warfare, Inc. (Handmark) - the sound and graphics are incredible. There are literally thousands of Palm OS applications for any and all purposes. Handango.com is a good place to search for Palm applications.

Relax, Mr. Moderator. We're almost done here. :p

PalmOne bundled an earlier version of PocketMirror with my old Treo 300 as the Outlook conduit and it worked very well. The 650 comes with a proprietary palmOne Outlook conduit. The version of PocketMirror you mention is one of several offered by Chapura; they seem to offer different levels of functionality and you can compare them at the Chapura web site. I'm not familiar with any of them. I would try out the conduit that comes with the 650 to see if it meets your needs before spending money on a third-party product.

Definitely go ahead and get "Chatter" at http://www.chatteremail.com if you like the idea of blackberry style Push email for IMAP / POP servers.

If you are synching your mail with your company's Exchange servers, then you need to go with the GoodLink application. It is very Outlookish but costs $300/per user/per year.

Chattermail won't hit anything behind a good firewall.

BTW, I bought 16 Treo 650's from Sprint and have had to return 6 of them. H/W and S/W is so damn buggy.

The Sprint Treo line has been quite disappointing in my experience. Had probably 6 Treo 300's and they then upgraded me to a Treo 600 (2 of those)-all due to various intrinsic failures-free replacements, minus hassle factor...

The 650 won't allow my Range Rover '05 to talk to it BT, so I am waiting for software for that or hopefully the 650's replacement. ANyone have the roadmap on that?

Thank you very much

Fury

Have you downloaded and installed palmOne's firmware updater 1.08 for the Sprint Treo 650? It includes supposedly improved Bluetooth carkit drivers, along with freeing-up some memory and other enhancements.

This was my experience too. I don't know anyone that has/had a Treo 600 that didn't have it replaced 2-3 times, or even more. This often involves waiting in long lines at Sprint to order replacement, and then again when it comes in.

I gave up and moved to S/E P900, then to Nokia 9500.
