Sorry, this isn't really a car question, but I'm in the market for a new phone. I would like to have a pda style phone and was wondering which one you guy perfer?

Hmm I own both of these bad boys and I love the treo 650 since it has a nicer screen, and because of the keyboard. If you want a flip go with the mpX220, but if you dont then the treo 650 is an excellent candidate. Another bad thing about the Motorola is that it is too damn thick when its closed.

Don't know anything about the MPX 220, but I'm deee-lighted with my Sprint Treo 650. Excellent PDA, good phone, efficient E-mail, surprisingly competent web browser (I've posted to this forum from it), decent camera (still and video), OK MP3 player, aaaak... here comes the moderator to move this thread to Off Topic.

I'm also looking at the TREO 650 as my current PDA phone is outdated. I'm going to wait until the Motorola MPX (not the MPX220) comes out eventhough preliminary reviews are mixed. Looking at the Motorola A1000 and Nokia 9500 also but might settle with the TREO 650.

I want the MPX300, but at a price tag of $1000. here in CA, not to mention it's not available yet, I think I'll pass. I saw the nokia 9500 but didn't like it because it's too big. My other option is the Sony Erickson 900?, but again it's not available here. I have heard great reviews on both the MPX 220 and Treo 650, but I really would like to have a PC phone and not a palm or smart phone instead.

As released last Fall, the 650 had troubles working with any Bluetooth car kit. palmOne has since released updated Bluetooth drivers that supposedly improve the ability of the 650 to pair with common car kits. The improved drivers were originally a separate release and have been included in the Sprint 650 firmware updater 1.08 that palmOne released earlier this week. I couldn't say if the 650 will now pair correctly with any specific Bluetooth car kit, though.

It's actually a pretty nice phone. I have the 850 version which is near impossible to find since they havent even finalized firmware for the 850 / 1800 / 1900 version. If anyone is interested in one let me know.

I recently started carrying a Treo 600 that I picked up with credit card points. I have to say, having tried many pda/phones (It's sort of a hobby) that I'm pretty impressed with the Treo so far.
I think the 650 is likely to be even nicer, as it appears that they addressed the few issues that I noticed right off, such as the rather pointy keycaps on the 600's keyboard.
There is a very large quantity of PalmOS software available to run on the Treos as well.
The WinCE/PocketPC-based smartphones have generally had a dicey track record. Reports of freezes/crashes have been somewhat common, though there are those who are fond of the Windows-like user interface design.
If you're looking for something that is more phone than PDA, be sure to check out the Symbian series 60 phones, like the Nokia 6600. I'm pretty fond of the PalmOS devices, but I have been very impressed with the stability, app selection, and feature set of my Nokia 6600.

As far as the Treo 650, Do you have problems syncing with microsoft outlook? And I just add phone numbers and such there and sync it to the phone? How's the clarity and color? Reliability? Thanks

I don't synch my 650 with Outlook; for reasons too complex to explain here, I synch it with my notebook PC and the notebook doesn't have Outlook. I synch it with the palmOne desktop software, which is adequate for personal use. My previous Treo 300 did synch with Outlook very well; palmOne includes Outlook "conduit" software in the box. Outlook synching is two-way (unless you tell it otherwise) meaning that what you enter on the Treo is transferred to (and backed up on) the PC, and what you enter in Outlook is transferred to the Treo.
The screen on the 650 is amazing, much better than on the Treo 300 and 600. The 320x320 pixel screen is very sharp and it's so bright that you can use it as a flashlight; color fidelity is excellent. The 650 is a good portable photo album.
The 650 seems quite stable with the bundled applications; not a whole lot of crashing, though some third-party apps may cause problems. In terms of physical durability, somebody (not me) dropped my first 650 3' to a hard floor; the keyboard stopped working but nothing else (not even the display) broke. My local Sprint store gave me another one so it worked out OK.

MPX crashes too much, had a Nokia 9300 for 1 week and it's too slow, HP Icrap H6315 crashes too much and t mo pulled it off shelves now. So far, Treo 650 is the best device I have used. I got a unlocked one and use it with Tmo.

Wow, not one person standing up for the MPx220? I change phones almost every month, and have used most of them. That's the benefit of being in charge of our company's IT department, and handling all the cell accounts. I use a Cingular MPx220 now, and love it. I'm sold on the MS Smartphones. We use Exchange for our mail system, and being in IT, I have to have instant access to all my emails. We have Blackberry's, Smartphones, all other PDA type phones. For me, I like the clamshell flip phones, not the candybar ones. But that's just me, others hate clamshells. The MPx220 has been stable for me. I don't like the PDA form factor type of phones.
When people ask me for recommendations, I always ask if they just need to read their email, or also compose long replies. If it's the latter, then I recommend a Blackberry. If it's just reading, then I suggest a MS Smartphone.

I use the MPX and absolutly love it. It's a great phone that has hands down really kicked ****. I used to have a Icrap 6315 and i hated it. Locking up was normal. Now it's just a big paperweight. I've got to sell it.
Anyways my mpx has been great. I plug in to my computer and it synchs with my outlook perfectly.
It has a great way to search the contact list.
Just a great phone. camera is great and so is quad band. I can't say enough good things about it.

While I was doing some research on cell phone, I stumbled on to this site: howardforums.com
Lots, I mean LOTS of information on all cell phones. Apparently there are some people complaining about the Treo 650 software being flawed causing many different issues (like erasing half of Email box during sync up). You might want to read up on it there.
