BlueTooth Availability?

I just orderd an E500 4Matic and was initially told by the MB salesmen that the car came with bluetooth. Much to my surprise, I'm learning that he meant a bluetooth compatable phone, as opposed to a bluetooth phone system in the car.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Unfortunately, I do not think that our cars come w/ Bluetooth (i.e. Acura) connection. I think the phones that you can buy have a physical connection to the car, but have bluetooth connections to sync w/ your PC, etc.

Sorry. It is about the only disadvantage that we have found in our cars.

I'd be interested in any way to "add" bluetooth compatibility to the car. Then, we could actually use any phone service and equipment we like.

as of now there is no way to integrate a bluetooth phone. I don't think it should matter too much anyway for the following reasons.

1. A hardwire connection sounds much better than a bluetooth connection
2. The phone also gets to charge while in a cradle vs. a bluetooth connection
3. The battery drain on a bluetooth connection (phone) is much greater and doesn't exist on a hardwire connection since the phone gets charged.

THe UHI Euro system for the w211 has a bluetooth antenna but this is for a privacy ear piece. NOT to connect the phone. YOu can use a small bluetooth ear piece and switch calls to the earpiece i

Funny you mention it. My buddy has a new Acura TL (that i smoke at every light) and he ends up turning his phone off or the battery drains on the shortest of drives. Makes you wonder. I thought I heard about some wireless chargers somewhere???

wireless chargers are still not ready for production. They use induction techonology to charge devices by placing them on a mat.

Wireless drain on battery is minimal if you have the right phone

.......thanks for the feedback........but the drain on the phone is minimal if you have the right phone.

I'm using bluetooth on my phone now with a headset and connection to my laptop - it's on all day and the drainage to the battery is minor. Yes it does drain your battery much faster. My phone could go a couple of days without a charge under normal usage. With bluetooth on, I charge the phone each night - big deal.

Having bluetooth in the car means your not married to the phone the MB sells you (at an incredible markup I might add) .....and you can use any phone you want, when ever you want.

It is key and should be part of the car's options.

Any phone? I didn't think that would work. Anyone with a Treo 650 that has sucessfully bluetoothed to the E-class?

I agree with the advantages of a bluetooth system in the car and that MBZ should incorporate it. Mostly, because i want to be able to use MY phone and not MBZ's options.
Now, as far as the battery drain. The concern with the Acura is not just that the bluetooth drains the battery. It is that the phone connects to the car as soon as the two come in proximity and begin sending refresh signals back and forth. Its that activity that drains his battery. Maybe a superphone doesn't do that, i don't know or care.

Blue tooth and MB

The delaer told me yesterday that the only way blue tooth will work in the Mercedes is with their (mb) phone for two grand. I think the guy had no idea what he was talking about or this is the rip off of the year

2003 E55 Techtite over Blue Leather.
He doesn't know what he's talking about. The new Motorola V600 & V710 have no means to wirelessly connect to our cars at all! They are still dependent on MHI cradles. Apparently the Mercedes Idiot engineers couldn't work out the bugs when developing the bluetooth system. They claim that the phone's phonebook would not download to the car upon connection. Why on Earth they couldn't simply license the technology from Jaguar, BMW or Acura I don't know! Part of the problem is that Mercedes has a contract with Motorola through 2007 to be the exclusive North American phone supplier for their cars (although even that should not have prevented Mercedes from at least implementing Bluetooth connectivity between our cars & their version of the Motorola V710). The other problem is Mercedes' refusal to dump Harmon Becker for their radios they offer in our cars! Pure crap! Just compare the DVD nav functions on any 2003-2005 ML. It's MCS system uses Alpine's DVD based Nav. Way better than any Harmon_Becker system. With the Alpine system, you can go straight to entering the street your'e looking for and it will give you all the cities that have such a street and then let you choose which one your'e looking for. Saves a bunch of time! Plus the graphics are better and more precise! When it comes to these kinds of technological features, Mercedes is lagging. How unfortunate especially for such an expensive car (I have a 2003 E55 no less!)
