My E500 Died
I took my wife 2003 MB-E500 to Walgreens to get some medicine last night, ran back out and it didn't want to unlock the doors, like my alternate key is on low battery or something, luckily enough, I was in a hurry and forgot to raise the back window up, so I manually lifted up the door knob to get in and there it was, as I expected, car alarm went off. I could not get it to stop with the key plus could not get the car to START... Tech came out 30 min later and we both agreed that it was not the battery but electrical/computer problem. It wouldn't start with BOTH keys.
Tow truck flat bed arrived 1 hour later (I had an experience to see how they operated that thing).... it headed to MB dealer and hopefully S.A will call me up tomorrow.( oops, it's morning now, must have been a sleepless night)
Since it's a lease car and we've had 60K miles on it (22K mile per year), for sure the repair will come out from my pocket so I paid the guy $120 cash cause the tow truck said most of the time the dealer will mark it up the towing service and I bought it. I'm crossing fingers hoping I'm not losing my "arm & leg" since MB repair is a sky rock $$$. Dang it.
Sorry guys, I just had to let it out.

Same thing happened to me. I'll be taking my car in soon for repairs.

Also, I'm reading other post about the recall effecting estimately 1.3 mil cars. Is this 1 of the problem that costing my car to fail?

I just got a called, $940 to repair an Electronic Ignition System (EIS) failure, parts will arrive tomorrow . Free loaner car. Bet you they added it on.
$350 for part + 5 hr labor.
I just finished talking with couple garages that work on new/used MB, and for this EIS problem, it can only be done by Dealer. Good job Mercedes.

U2fadt4me,
Sorry to hear that. If you have good connection with the SA, SM and your sales in this dealership, you might try to see if they will let you to buy the extened warranty now. I know it is a long shot but at least you have a warranty afterward and feel less pain for this event.
Take care,

New update:
S.A just called and after they had the car finally started they found another problem, the SAM Control Unit has failed, He said that what it does is to control many diff functions on the display, he said something about Disk Plate SRS, what is it anyway?
So it’ll cost another $726 to fix it.
SAM Ctrl Unit part itself is $329.
Total so far is $1,700. Are they trying to say that I should get an extended warranty?
