Source of Wiper blades....

Trying to work out if there is anywhere in the UK wher I can get replacement W211 (05 model) wiper blades.

MB dealer has them at about £30 a pair - can they be sourced elsewhere for less?

Cheers

For that matter, I would like to know if there is a cheaper source here in the US. I plan to complain about the wipers when my first service C is done. I guess that after that first free change I will be on my own and I find that the price for these wipers is a bit high (Not really worth it!).

I remember reading in here that you can buy inserts that aren't that expensive.

On the new windshield wiper blades you have to replace that entire rubber/plastic piece. Its not like the W210 where you could change the insert.

The wipers on the car simply suck, instead of moving the water from the windshield it smears it over the windshield. My TL, and Odyssey have better wipers than there Aero Blades.

replace wiper insert

I believe Mercedes would like you to think that you cannot replace the insert. It can be done. Check out this link from some of our VW cousins. You will notice that the ends of their wiper blades are remarkably similar to ours.
http://www.passatworld.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=127303

Unfortunately, we cannot use the triple edge insert because our wiper is approximately 25 1/2 inches long. I was able to use a refill I found at Wal Mart labelled Lexor type A which I then cut to size.

I continued complaining about the wipers and they gave me new ones a second time which have been on over a year and still work well because they bent the wiper arm in some way so that they have not chattered for me.

If you want to pull off the correct plastic end, you easily find out when you pull and push on the rubber insert. One end will slide easily. The other end feels fixed. You pull off the plastic end on the side where the insert feels fixed, since that is where the metal tab "bites" into the insert.

My results were not great, but I will try this again once my blades go bad.

You could buy a new set and then experiment with the old set.

Hope this helps.

I looked into this when I found out the price of new Mercedes wiper blades, which I feel are priced exhorbitantly. They know that if you can buy the car, you can afford the wiper blades. I hate feeling ripped off, so if anyone else has found a work around solution, please post.

Bap Geon website lists the blades at $51.92, not $7.00. Still better than the dealer price, but does anyone have any more economical source or alternative? Do the Walmart Lexor Type A's actually work? Or are we stuck with something between $52 (BapGeon) and $79 (according to BapGeon, the dealer price)?

Thumbs up On line...

Folks, I use these three places for almost everything benz, including blades. I think my blade was about $8. They carry both oem and aftermarket stuff. Not everything, of course, but 95% of the stuff you're likely to need.

Listed in order of personal preference:

www.autohausaz.com
www.autopartswarehouse.com
(both of the above give free shipping at the $50 price point)

http://parts.mbz.org (free shipping at $75 price point)

I don't know if they ship to the UK, but you've got to have some on your side of the pond.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

If you have a 2005 car, you might be able to get Mercedes to do whatever it is you need. They replaced my windshield wipers after a year no charge because they were noisy.

I would like to know which MB dealer sells them for £30 a pair. Last time I had to pay £54 from MB Croydon, SW London. Thanks.

Had dealer replace my blades. That didn't help. I applied Zaino to the windshield and the wipers are very quite. One application is good for about 5 car washes, then reapply.

Thanks for trying but none of these places have blades for W211. Maybe for cars like your 01, but not the newer body style. So far, it is a dead end other than going to the dealer and seeing if they'll replace under warranty or buying at truly outrageous prices.

Unhappy My apologies, guys...

Since I was a little puzzled I asked the folks at Autohaus and this is their response:

Thanks for submitting your request to Autohaus AZ. In response to your
question, we've had a few requests today for 211 chassis wipers but
unfortunately the Bosch set is no cheaper than Mercedes yet so it is not
offered. Both Bosch and Mercedes get about $30 each for the blades or
it comes in a $60 set, but we do not stock them yet.

YEESH! As a former co-worker would say, "That is a suck!"

Sorry and good luck!
Greg
