S350

Interesting, I was just on the Mercedes web-site (US Version) and they are now showing a 2006 S350 (3.7 liter). It is based in the mid $60's which makes it close to a loaded E. I love my E but my next car might just be this one (of course not until it is redesigned though).

This is the V6 out of the current ML350. It's the old three valve design. The next S-Class will get the four valve v6 that's in the E350. I doubt that one will be quite so cheap.

Forgive my ignorance but what difference does another valve provide? Also, how much do you expect the cost to rise? Is this bargain due to the fact that this model is approaching the redesign?

It has nothing to do with the number of valves. The old V6 is an aging design that doesn't produce much power compared to the competition. The new V6 is more powerful and competitive.

The old engine uses 3-valves per cylinder and was optimized for lower emissions and good fuel economy. The new engine is much more advanced, more powerful and uses modern rail fuel injection.

The point is that the next S-Class will get the new V6.
