MB "Birth Certificate" available...
Birth Certificate available for MB cars, new and old
New from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center, Mercedes owners can now purchase the Classic Certificate, the document that verifies a car's build date and original factory specifications. Available for new or vintage Mercedes models for $100, this "birth certificate" comes professionally bound in a black case, and makes an excellent pride-of-ownership display that is suitable for framing.
The DaimlerChrysler Archives make it possible to establish the original specifications of almost every vehicle built under the Mercedes and Mercedes-Benz brands. Some factory records date back to 1890, and the scope of archived data ranges from internal order number to bodywork and engine codes, to the place of delivery. Ordering the Classic Certificate records the owner's name in the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Archives, thus integrating the owner with the car's history.
Phone between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, at 1-866-MBCLASSIC (622-5277).

I'll definitely get one for my 1955 300SL Gullwing, right after I get the 1955 300SL Gullwing. But $100 for a piece of paper about a mass-produced late-model car? C'mon.

Just think, our W211s will someday be classics. There will probably be only a handfull of 211s left in 2060 so the nice booklet will be something that my great-great-grandchild could cherish along with the pristine vehicle. Now if all that could happen, I could rest peacefully in my coffin.

I called MB and they do not have a sample posted on the web. They are mailing me one today; when it comes, I'll try to scan it and post here. Besides $100, they need a copy of the vehicle title and an 8-week wait as these are produced in Germany.
