Command Unit ?

I have set the date and time on the unit but it does not show up anywhere on the screen, say for example as it does on a BMW unit. As always any info. is appreciated.

Correct. It does not show up any where on the screen.

The COMMAND unit for the w211 does not have the option to display the date and time , except when you are setting it.

Radio Data System RDS

Boy I can not believe all this technology and it can't change presets via the steering wheel or display the time/date. Is there a way to enable the Radio Data System RDS, which displays the name of the station and song? My old outdated 2000 540ia GPS system screen did all of those functions and it boggles my mind the Mercedes 05 can't. Please let me know or is tis only available with the Satellite radio?

A solution, if you want the time displayed press the SRV button (I think that is what it is) and then press TIME. Leave that on your screen..

MB typically for most of its cars has only displayed the time in the cluster area for as long as I can remember. I never really understood it, since it would seem to be a general piece of information that other people in the car may want to see. Same thing with the outside temperature. Like it is some secret that only the driver should know about.

Funnily enough, the one car that has the time in the middle, is the SL, which is only a two seater anyway. In this case, it is high mounted and easily readable.

Amazing...

MB prides itself on producing highly engineered & technologically advanced cars and yet blows some of the simplest issues. practically every freaking car out there has RDS these days...unbelievable.

How freaking crazy is it to set a analog clock digitally??? unbelievable. I'm still trying to get used to having to read the clock but hey, that's what you get for 60K!

My 3 FIX IT NOW items are:

Mem presets
RDS display
Digital clock

If these get fixed/upgraded, i will be one ecstatic MB owner - but being that the mem preset issue has been around now for 3 model years, i guess i shouldn't hold my breath.

At least on my 03 E500 (I can't confirm as I traded it in last month), that would only last for about 30 second and return to the previous screen.

On the '03 with Navigation (replacement cars at the end of the '03 run)
you can change the comand to the Euro mode and get RDS and a british voice on the Nav. You can also play video DVD's.

Don't know if any later years had this option

The main reason for setting the time on the COMAND unit is to allow it to calculate your ETA in Nav mode. This is accessed via the info tab whilst you are en-route to a selected destination.

daylight savings...

And if they ever pass the energy bill, we might get an extra 2 months of longer days!

I'll take the pepsi generation comment as a compliment to my youth and laziness

Having no RDS is shocking to me, I have an '05 Volvo with it, and the 03 VW Passat I sold had it... I never even bothered to ask the salesman if the car had it as I assumed with the fancy "Command" center, I would have all kinds of bells and whistles.. so far I'm a bit shocked at the LACK of info in the command center.

I would have even expected some car related programing to be done there, but I would like to think that since it's a computer, maybe there can be after market or 3rd party fixes for it soon?

I agree.
Since I don't have NAV (so no map) and I don't have DVD (so no MP3 with song titles) and no RDS, COMAND is just a big black hole in the dash that displays the radio station frequency. Big waste. Seems that these features would be an MBUSA inexpensive gimme to help an owner feel they got their money's worth. The nickle and diming of options is ridiculous on a $50k+ car.

That sad thing is we bought this car at the same time as friends down the street bought their Honda mini-van... and while they got voice command and RDS as well as XM Radio with their $1400 Nav system, I got none of those.. I felt like an idiot trying to justify it because it was a Mercedes and those items cost more so I didn't get them!

And wait until you try to use that $1400 Honda navigation. Puts MB nav to shame...
