W211 wagon and Parktronic

can someone tell me why NA spec W211 wagon do not have parktronoc option available? I can understand MB not offering it on a small car like the SLK, but on an E500T, you definitely need it. Or am I mistaken and it is available?

We need it

I agree that this is needed and as far as I can tell, is not offered. It should be standard for crying out loud.

It's available on a European W211 wagon and the US sedan, but not the US wagon...I don't get it. The $1000 or so would be well worth it if it saved you from one scratched bumber!

You can always add it after you buy the car on the wagon.

Sunman, I have the wagon, any idea what the cost would be to have it installed? And, is this something the dealer can do or would a 3rd party be needed?

The dealer can install it but if you are going to pay an hourly rate, it would be pretty expensive. I would guestimate about 2500

Thanks guys. Sounds pretty pricey. Maybe I'll just keep doing it the old fashioned way. Thanks again.

When my 2008 wagon arrived, the dealer quoted me $750 for 4 rear parking sensors, all painted to match, just like the factory ones. This was for audio alerts only, with no lights like the factory one has. Just before they drilled the holes, the installer noticed that the rear bumper brace left too little room for the sensors, so they could not install the system.

If you look closely at the rear bumper of a European W211 wagon, you will notice that the bumper is thinner than on US wagon models. Since the volume of US wagons is quite low, Mercedes most likely decided it wasn't worth designing rear parking sensors specifically for US wagons.

That said, compared to most cars, the wagon has such great rear visibility that I hardly miss the Parktronic.

I had an R-Class with Parktronic and an E wagon without it. In the R it was useful within limits because of the poor rear visibility. Not really an issue with the wagon, I find.
