Trip odometer issues

Well, now it has happened enough for me to know that I am NOT imagining it! Every so often, my trip odometer gains a hundred or so miles after I park the car overnight. I just filled up the tank yesterday and reset the trip computer “since reset” and the trip meter. I drove about 33 miles during the day yesterday and all was OK. When I started the car this morning, I noticed the my trip odometer is at 140.3 miles and my trip computer is “since reset” and the main odometer are both indicating 33 miles driven since I fueled the car.

NO ONE IS DRIVING THE CAR or temporarily borrowing it. So that is not a possibility. Plus, the main odometer or the since reset trip computer reading would be off and they are right on.

Am I the only one who has this issue? Does anyone know what could be causing this? I would like to know something about this issue before I go to the dealer.

Thanks,

Steve

This is probably obvious, but when you hit reset which of the three screens are you on since reset, resets different stats on each of the screens.

I find the system a little odd to have to clear what I think of as the "trip" stats, then have to switch to the "distance to empty" screen to reset the real trip counter (the number always at the bottom of the screen).

I have the exact same problem occured to me, reset the trip odo at the 3rd screen in Range. Few hours later the miles came back when I start the car, I reseted it again then I went back to to zero. It only happened to me once so I have not yet found a solution to this.

Hi, I think I have heard of this before. I think there is more than one trip meter. Each meter can be programmed to the remote. (user1, user2, user3)

You can go to any meter you want but it will go back to the one programmed to the remote when started.

If the trip computer can be Key Dependent, I don't know, but I have only used one key when this happened to me. Also, I used to back out of the "since start" and "since reset" menu to reset the trip, but I also noticed, that once I reset either one of the trip computer's running averages, if you hit the button again, it WILL reset the trip meter.

I have had this problem both when I let the car sit for two weeks and when I have driven 300+ miles in one day and then the next morning, the trip meter has gained about 100 miles. It drives me crazy!

Also, I have noticed that when I screwed around in the command's menu and switched stuff around in the hidden menu, my trip meter would immediately go to something strange! I ignored it since I figured I was messing with the system. But now it is doing it whenever it wants and in an inconsistent way.

Keep in mind that at all times the odometer has been right on along with the "since reset" trip screen. I have left a message with my service advisor and the Head Mechanic at the dealership; they should get back with me once they have some information.

I am glad that other folks here have seen this happen and I am not alone!

I have found that if you continue to hold in the Reset while on the "Since Reset" screen for maybe 3 secs, first the reset data will zero, but later the trip will zero.
