Seats are too hot!

With summer time here my black interior car feels like its 150 degrees once it sits in the sun for a little while. I now realize what a mistake it was not to get the ventilated seats but I was wondering is there anything that can be put on the seat or done to the car make the seat a little bit cooler?

and no i dont want to tint my windows or trade my car in for another.

Try using the global window/sunroof opening command before getting in the car.

Keep the rear/side sunshades closed when the car is parked.

I dont have the sunshade option, whats the global command for opening the windows?

Any other ideas? I was really wondering if there are special seat covers that stay cool that I can use to just lay on top of my regular seats. Perhaps there is no such thing.

You may want to review your owner's manual or this brief video:

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/te...I&accCode=3001

I hope this helps.

My E320 is the first Mercedes I've owned in more than 20 years that didn't have Mercedes sheepskins from the day I bought it. I've had them in the heat and humidity of North Carolina, the cold of Minnesota and the boiling heat around Phoenix.

You must get top quality skins. If you do, they will be cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Cheap skins or fake skins will do just the opposite.

Unfortunately, the new E-Class can't have full sheepskins because of air bags in the side of the seats but I may still get a set even though only the center of the seat will be covered.

Since M-B sheepskins for the W211 are 1/2 the price of the ones on my 300E, it's an inexpensive thing to try.

BTW, in all those locations I've also had a high quality sheepskin mattress cover on our bed. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It's really true.

You can tilt your sunroof. All us kids do it whenever we go out so the air keeps venting.

Oh how I love BMW's timed AUX cooling

Seems there was an option for a solar powered exhaust fan for the cabin. Anybody remember this? It may have been only available with the Pano Roof.

Yea I have it - only avail. for 1 years IIRC. It is no longer..

It seems to work well although it rarely breaks 90 out here. When in AZ, it makes a diff. Its still warm, but not swealtering. Keeps it at about what outside temps are instead of 20 deg higher.

As BudC recommends, try the MB sheepskin covers. I have a set for my 05 cdi and they work very well. The MB price is over $200 but I found a (new) set on ebay for about $100.

I also have the MB sheepskin covers. Work very well here in AZ.

dpath – You say you found them on eBay, who offered them (i.e.: private owner, dealer, etc.)? Did you find different colors readily available?

I take it that this will become a “hot” item given the fact that activated ventilated seats (AVS) have been discontinued for the E-Class.

I can think of a couple of options. A good quality windshield screen (the collapsible ones are compact when you pull them out) will also protect your dash/ip from the sun's nasty rays, since it's a physical block park with the windshield facing the sun. Also, there is a company that makes the top-of-the-window solar powered fans, that would probably help, too but looks fairly cheesy. If you do the first and Ricky's suggestion of cracking the sunroof (I never leave mine open all the way) that will probably help considerably. I've got the black interior(!) and these help quite a bit.

Good luck!

Can some one post a pic of the E class sheep skins installed? I am wanting to get them, but since they require installation I don't want to go thru with it if it doesn't look very good. I understand that they remove your seat, then insert them in place of the current leather insert.

MBUSA Sheepskin Seat “Covers” simply belt into place over the existing driver & passenger seat. This picture (MBUSA accessory list) is not very good but you should know they are good looking and very comfortable.

I agree with you totally, black leather gets hot. I had light gray leather and that was hot as hell.

You could add, maybe, seat covers that block the sun's rays in the summer from coming into contact with the leather.

Konigstiker - I bought the MB seat covers from a private seller on Ebay. The seller sold the car before getting a chance to install them. It might be worth checking on Ebay periodically for a similar deal.

I don't have a problem with the black leather on my E350 even here in Arizona. The key is the vented seats.

Ah, but what if you do not have ventilated seats? Better yet, if you can no longer get them? Or if you simply like to squeeze the eagle on a quarter till it cries?

Konig, so if I understand you correctly, you "belt" them in yourself? Or is this a dealer install?

Very easy install, you can have your SA belt them in for you (as a courtesy) or simply do it yourself.

Well, I just ordered the pair $250 for both, not bad.. I will report back if I don't like them.

Exclamation Hot Interior

My idea would be to put (2) 12 volt solar panels (12" x 4" , .75") in the back window sill. Hook these up to a small 12 volt motor/fan that would pull outside air into the cabin. Add a series diode and any excess power is directed back to the battery for a trickle charge.

This can run a small fan.

If you are pulling in outside air you can put a filter on the air inlet and keep the car smelling fresh. Your temperature will drop a few degrees.

The bigger or more efficient the solar panel, the bigger the fan you can run.

Ideally I would like to put a vapor deposition solar panel (very thin), between the sunroof and the moonroof.
