3000 miles service?

I just got a letter from dealer saying I am overdue for 3000 miles service. My car has about 3500 miles and no FSS indicator of immediate service needed. Is this a gimmick for dealer to make some quick bucks or does my car really need some service at 3000 miles?

Smile 3000 mile service

My dealer advised me I could bring in my E500 before 3000 miles for a complementary check up. Brought it in at 2400 miles with a couple of little item. They fixed them and checked the car for problems. All ok. One of my keys would intermittenly fail to lock or unlock doors. They could not duplicate the problem but ordered a new key to replace it anyway. I had replaced the grill and attached it with the 2 included fasteners. It's not a snug fit without more screws but the original screws don't fit the non oem grill so I was going to buy some and tighten it up. Well the SA called and said the mechanic noticed the not so great fit and ordered the right connectors. He asked if his dealership had installed the grill at delivery or later. I told him that they were off the hook because it was an aftermarket grill I bought on EBAY. He said no problem and called me the next day to come back and they would finish it gratis.

freebie at dealer

And it's easier to fix a developing problem than a full blown problem. Good business.

I insisted that the dealer change my oil at 2000 miles since it had taken 6 months plus to put on the first 2000 miles. Even though I am entitled to free service (2004 buyers) they still charged me for the oil change because it was premature per their schedule.
