Are they actually replacing the alternator of just testing the voltage regulator? Even if the regulator is bad, do they change the entire alternator or just the regulator?

I wonder where MBUSA is on this issue? It's about time they moved on this recall.

I am pretty sure it is a replace. There were 2 parts with this TSB (2 line items). I will post the details when they give me the reciept.

Is the alternator issue a "new" one? I don't remeber seeing anything posted about it. Have I missed it?

What is the problem with the alternator? I just received the recall letter for SBC but no word about the alternator.

I've been wondering what has come of the alternator recall. That article is from 3/31, and we haven't heard anything new yet. I had already done the SBC recall some time back.

I think this is actually an additional SBC recall. This covers all Sensotronic brake systems including the SL. The one we had previously was software and in some cases a fluid change, this is newer software as I recall.

I thought the "newer" alternators have built in regulators??? So change one will change both.

Looks like you are right. 1997 was the last year they show a seperate voltage regulator for the E-Class in the U.S.
