How can I track down the installed options?
My apologies if this was covered in a prior thread but I was unable to locate the answer.
Is there any place I can go to enter, say, the VIN and find out what factory options are installed? I am in the market for an E500 and see a bunch I am interesed in different states that I am considering but would like to find out more info before contacting each and every dealer, individual, etc.
I was thinking that it should be straightforward to find out if you had the VIN. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks.

I believe that the dealer can run a VMI, or vehicle master inquiry to find that out. However I'm not sure if they will give this to a person who doesn't own the car. Another way would be to find a parts person who would be willing to run the data card for you and that will list every option that it was built with.
As far as doing it yourself, I don't know of any ways.

you can try below link
http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/index.html?lng=eng
However, there are two things you should keep in mind
1) US VIN is a little difference from others, however, if you know how to convert, you should be fine to use the above link
2) The cars were made in 2004 or 2005 are not included in the database yet, the link only good for those were made before 2004

I found this site while looking around. The links on this page don't break out the factory options but they do decode the VIN for production information.
