Bottom line....Benz KEEPS the innovations that change the marketplace and revolutionize the industry. (Anti locks, crumple zones, disc brakes and fuel injection etc)
Their are many reputable magazines that all say Benz is scrapping SBC by 2008-09 production.
No offense meant to the SBC fans, but it's toast in a few more years.
They'll replace it with something killer for sure, no worries.

Not saying all German engineers are perfect, but I doubt that those factors weren't thoroughly studied by the guys in R&D before they let this system loose on 1 million or more cars. Also, I was just in the dealer for my free <3000mile check up and I asked two different service advisors, and one tech if they are aware of any issues with SBC as far as maintenance, wear and tare, etc.. and all three said it was almost trouble free.

they'll scrap it but not the technology, they'll just build on the technology and mark my words, brake-by-wire will be back when cost/benefiit is more in line.

They are changing the technology to something better not scrapping it I assume. It would be pretty cromagnon of them to go back to old hydralic brakes without the advancments found in SBC. Chances are E class will get ABC system, which is a more expensive system found in S class and S class will get the new technology.
