Help with locking audible alert
After getting my car back from my last service the audible alert is not working when I lock and un-lock the car. The manual says "contact your MB service center". Thot I'd skip that and go directly to the collective to see if there is a hack.
Assistance?

Audible alert? On lock/unlock? ..I thought MB's were silent on lock/unlock. I actually prefer it silent, and have been known to gawk at my gf when she locks/unlocks her BMW X5 and it makes that horrible beep (how barbaric!)!
(..just an opinion..)

Anyway. Seems that M-B recently decided to give the W211 a voice when locked or unlocked. Did that happen with the '05 or '06 MY? I seem to recall a previous thread about whether the chirp, or beep, or whatever can be activated in now-silent earlier W211s. With my bad hearing, I can't hear the "thunk" of the locks more than a few feet away, and the flash of the lights is hard to see in the blazing sun.

There is no user option to get an audible on my 2004 E320. What I hate are those cheap implementations where they use the horn as an audible. As you walk through the parking lot you hear horns honking all over the place. Just another example of why Detroit won't build fine cars.
I do wish my car had the original audible or one like BMW where you can control it. Most of the time I can't see the lights flash in the bright Arizona sun light.

My 2003 ended up with the lock 3 beeps, unlock 1 beep when they did a fix to my alarm system that was going off intermittently. They replaced a module, retrained everything, and I have the beeps on an '03. Whether it's a byproduct or a selective setting, I don't know.

My 2005 has no audible sound, which is much to my liking. The sound of the locking mechanism (which I listen for as I walk away) is more than enough for me.

My 2005 DOES have the sound. I like it because I know I'm locked. It's fairly quiet too. If I have to run in at night on call and I get back home like 2-3AM, I'll still lock the car in the garage. My wife and kids never hear it. It's definitely quieter than the chirp on my old 540.

fubar,
I 'm afraid your gonna have to go with the manual "contact your MB service center". They should be able to activate/deactivate it through StarDiagnose.

Activated on 3/04 E320
I have a 2004 E320 with a 3/04 build date. I just had the dealer activate the audible alert. It cost me 1/2 hour labor. It's not overly intrusive and now we can tell that the car is locked. The job was called *recoded rear SAM*.
