Ring burn!

Has anyone else noticed that wedding rings etc can do substantial damage to leather steering wheels?

I let my wife out i the car and now it looks like it's been mauled by an animal!

Any good ideas for repair methods?

Ouch!! You might try Leatherique. That has helped the leather in my W210 as well as the W211.

Damage

Use her for the blame, and order a wood and leather wheel.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, a wood wheel would be perfect in that situation. The leather on it is much nicer and tighter so you shouldn't have that kind of problem.

If the wood is anything like that on my Volvo, don't bother.. My wifes rings have put quite a few scratches into it (though I guess I'm being picky as they're not too deep). Being that it's 130 degrees inside the car out here in summer, I got a quality "wheel cozy" that actually makes the wheel even easier to grip, the color matches perfectly.. it's a bit cheezy I admit, but it keeps the wheel cool, the leather new, and cost me $30.

she must be wearing a ring of spikes or she's gripping the steering wheel so tight and holding on for dear life.

Agreed.

I have two different rings (not at the same time) and neither of them have runined the wheel.

Sometimes the bottom/edges of a ring can put small cuts in the leather if it's at just the right angle and the ring is so thin it can cut. A ring with small multiple stones that is loose and flips around her finger can inadvertently cause cuts too.
