DCX resumes leasing in New York state ...

... according to a brief story in today's WSJ, page D3. I had no idea that DCX (and Ford) had pulled out of leasing in New York because of their unhappiness with state law concerning vicarious liability.

The new federal transportation pork barrel, er, "bill", overrides the New York state law and so DCX feels that it's now safe to go back into the New York lease market.

The crowd now running this country obviously thinks that federalism is a wonderful thing unless it inconveniences corporate interests, in which case a little federal preemption is in order.

As a "right winger" or "conservative" I have to admit that there is a lot of hypocrisy with this whole "states rights" issue.. it's a red hearing I believe.. conservative thought and federalism are two mutually exclusive ideologies. I subscribe to the former but not the latter..

New York is a terrible enviornment to do business in. I say this as a business owner. Their laws are very heavilly weighted towards the consumer and unfairly so. There are many corporations that avoid doing business in that State. Its also terrible from the standpoint of the tax laws and again unfairly so. Companies that do business there usually charge their New York customers more to compensate themselves for the heavy costs of doing so.

I have run into more people who came from AZ from NY than any other place outside of CA. This state is the opposite of NY and CA with regards to regs.. they almost lack them. More and more companies are relocating HQ's here as of late.. USAA is the latest with their 30,000 man campus they just finished.
