Car shuts down
This has never happened to the car before but it happened twice today.
As I was slowing down, the car suddenly shut down. When it happened, the power steering was gone and the brakes became hard as the servo does not work any more. I had to put the gear on park before turning the car back on.
This is worrying. I will contact MB on Tuesday (closed this Monday) but I still need to drive the car in the meantime.
Happened to you before? Anyone has any thoughts?

Same thing happened to my car.
MB Service couldn't fix it, even after changing cables and other hardware.
Finally, they decided to re-flash the entire memory and put in the latest sofware.
No problems since then. Go figure.

You could be right that it is a software issue.
I had all the recalls done four months ago and intermittently (perhaps five times since the recalls) the audio will not switch on when I turn the car on.
Something else I need to point out to MB.

Back from dealer
The car came back from the dealer yesterday. They say that the latest software is already installed. They drove the car for a few miles and could not replicate the fault.
On the plus side, the car has not shut down within the last week so I'll wait and see.

Even if your engine stalls, the SBC system has an electric pump to boost the brakes. This is that noise we all complain about after you press the brakes a few times. This pump is always on, even if the key is out of the ignition and the car is in park.
If you don't believe me, try it. Don't even put your key in the car and press the brake pedal. It will never get harder to push and you will hear the brake booster pump start to work.
Could it be that in the panic of things you maybe thought that the pedal was harder? I mean, this is the one HUGE advantage of the SBC, it gives you power brakes all the time (as long as you have battery power).

this is one place where SBC is superior to standard vacuum assist.. Dead engine = no vacuum.. = no brakes..
SBC only needs a good battery... I think this outweighs it's minuses alone.
