minimum Cetane for your CDI..
I read someplace (but for the life of me, I can't find it now) that MB engines need a minimum of 45 cetane rating to run properly. I also know that most of the Diesel #2 in the US is around 40... anyone know anything about this? I know additives can raise cetane like Redline's 85+, but those aren't even technically "Recommended" by MB.. Also, will the newer ULSD (Low Sulfur) reduce this cetane yet again?
I've been doing a bit of research on this, but most of what I find doesn't address MB specifically and the dealer is absolutely no help.

The DC-supplied literature for my CDI stipulates only that fuel must be No. 2D or 1D, which meets ASTM D975. This standard (D975) specifies a cetane rating of 40.
I've totally struck out on getting any information about diesel fuel (cetane number, sulfur content, etc.) sold here in Michigan. Michigan law requires that gasoline octane rating be posted on the pump. This is not the case for diesel fuel, alas.
