mainly as a result of the "bargain" pricing..

but let's face it, the E is the best looking of that bunch too!

I would not call the pricing exactly a bargain, maybe on the outgoing 2005 E 500, but the E350 pricing was just "almost competitiive", but still higher than comparable models from all manufacturers on the list but BMW. The BMW 5 was about the same price as the E.
Even with the higher price and less "gadgets" than the Infiniti, Acura, Audi and Lexus, I still preferred the E. I guess others did too!

What I meant by bargain is that 25 years ago a Benz was three times the price of most cars by Toyota, Honda, GM, etc.. today's it's in the ball park.. mind you it's stripped down at that price.. but it's still in the same ball park.

For example a 1975 450SEL 6.9 was $50,000 in 1975 dollars

a 1983 300D was $35,500

a 1986 560SL was $81,000

doing the inflation math.. an MB today is indeed a bargain.. The new SL is still south of 100K.

The E class just crushed the competition. Now if only the 388HP E500, or is it going to be labeled E55, would hurry up and get here.
