Accident!

It was inevitable the way these *******s drive here! Short of all the details this **** head attempts to beat oncoming traffic and pulls out of a commercial driveway as I’m approaching - no warning! Here’s the thing, traveling at about 35 mph my dad (age 88) as a front passenger who didn’t have his seat belt fastened hit the windshield and received minor abrasions to his head. I was wearing my seatbelt and need shoulder surgery. Air bags didn’t deploy. More than $15000 in damage! Car is back to its original condition thanks to Scottsdale Paint & Body. Fabulous job – immaculately detailed upon return.

Did the seat belt tensioners deploy? It's odd that the air bags didn't deploy.

Since moving to Arizona I can understand why auto insurance is so high out here.

Yes mine did and I think it actually caused my shoulder injury.

I’m told that so many variances come into play with air bags deploying. So far the accepted reasoning is that only the passenger air bag would have deployed given the collision point and because Dad didn’t have his belt fastened if the air bag had deployed it would have caused more injury not working in unison with the seat belt.

I should have realized your dad's air bag wouldn't deploy. Also, I know tht Mercedes air bags deploy at a higher impact because of the seat belt tensioners.

Mercedes argument is that if you go through a wooden fence and hit a brick wall, you don't want the air bag deploying prematurely.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

BTW, when I asked State Farm where I could take my car in the event of an accident they said they send Mercedes to Phoenix Motors which made me happy.

I remember reading somewhere that Phoenix Motors is certified for MB collision repair however I’m sure if they send their work out. Shoemaker, I mean Schumacher uses Raintree Collision in the Scottsdale Airpark, and MB of Chandler uses Scottsdale Paint & Body simply because they are both owned by United Auto. GEICO (my company) and USAA (the other driver's company) both agreed that SPB does outstanding work.

Just so they use genuine Mercedes parts and that a Mercedes shop handles things outside body work.

So glad to hear you and your "old man" are O.K.... Can't believe the damage to the other vehicle. The e looks like it did pretty good seeing that the other car was an SUV. I'm going to have to show my father in law these pic's.... he drives a cherokee and this will show him what will happen when you tangle with the mighty star. Guess now would be a good excuse to move over to the CLS????

Yes in fact I worked very closely with my advisor at SPB and we both made sure only genuine MB parts were used throughout right down to the MB windshield decal. Mechanical inspection, any applicable updates, and wheel alignment was performed and signed off by MBOC.

You know, last night I had a dream that a CLS had docked here and was in route to Tucson of all places. Go figure…

Why didn't your dad have his belt on?

Is it not illegal to be in a car without it on in the U.S?

I suppose you are allowed to carry guns like the wild wild west, so i shouldn't surprise me a thing like human safety should mean anything to you.

..yeah, people need to chill out with the "ME FIRST!" attitude. Just ticks me off how people can be so stupid inconsiderate. Makes me wonder when I have a tailgater sniffing the glue on my registration tags, what horor standing in line at the bank with them would bring. . .. need a bumber sticker that says, "where's your manners, sparky?"

You’re absolutely right. However, my wife and I gave up a long time ago explaining this to him. Guess he learned his lesson because now he wears his belt religiously.

Now about carrying guns, oddly enough I along with my crew and most people I did business with carried a piece back in NYC but here in AZ where it’s legal – well lets just say what’s the fun in that…

Some MBs & Bimmers
Thank God you and your old man are fine.

I am assuming this took place awhile back as you reported everything is back in place (body work, your surgery and so on)

Thanks for sharing your experience

The SOB had the nerve to ask “Where the hell did you come from?” Well I tried as hard as I could to forget everything I learned back in NYC in how to deal with these morons and just when it was all coming back to me, the cop grabbed him and escorted him to his vehicle.

The accident happened July 22nd. I just haven’t had the time to post. I will be seeing a specialist for consultation and eventual surgery in Oct.

Curious, what was the diagnosis on your shoulder that the seatbelt caused?

Unfair comment.. we have one of the lowest gun death rates in the US here.. across the state border where Guns are almost illegal in California, they have one of the highest. Get your facts straight before you run off with such comments.

Konig, sorry for your loss, and especially for the injuries you and dad may have suffered. I think the speeding down the streets and avenues here in the Valley is the worse I've seen.

BTW... Ironically I was just at Phoenix Motor today getting my wooden wheel, and I spoke to their body guy about whether they can re-apply the nano paint if there is a repair.. sadly he said "only at the factory"

How much did they have to repaint?

My car does not have nano-clearcoat it was introduced to the w211 in 04 however applicable clearcoat was applied. Bumper, fender, hood, and front door were painted. I looked at every angle, in all lighting conditions and the job appears flawless at least as best I can tell. I highly recommend SPB if you’re willing to wait because who you know plays an important role in the completion process otherwise you’ll wait in line. The shop is always full.

BTW as it pertains to your windhslield thread all glass is Saint Gobain Sekurit including the new windshield replacement.

It is diagnosed as a torn rotator cuff tendon. Extreme pain especially when the arm is moved against resistance. Nighttime pain is the worst!

DUDE!!!! I am so glad that the car took the brunt of the asses move. Cars can be replaced. I am glad you are ok. I Guess it is better for you to get shoulder problems than Dad? At any rate, take care of yourself. I still owe you a big one and would be happy to help if I can. Looks like you are in good hands for now. Haha.

Screw the CLS, get an E55

Thanks for the info, and glad you're ok. Hope dad isn't too shook up.

Glad to hear you and pops are okay, not banged up any more than you could've been. Glad to hear the Benzo is back on the road as well.

Anywhere in AZ metro areas suck big wieners for drivers. Damn scary.

You never answered the question, "where did you come from?"
