sat. antennae

Dealer has ordered me ipod package for inside glove compartment. Says it will work in my 2004 E500 and says that is only '04 it works with. While at dealer I say a new Sirrius antenna that matches color of the car. I have ugly black one, dealer did not know if the new anntenna would work ? Any thoughts. Thanks

You can switch to the smaller antenna. You have to get the antenna and a splitter, roughly $85 in parts plus labor to install both. But the antenna only comes in black, pewter, iridium silver, and alabaster white, or a primered one that you can get painted to match other colors.

The only other concern is that the larger antenna can leave a slight indent in the clear where the rubber seal goes around and the new antenna does not cover this up.

I've seen them painted before, so I would say it can be done.

I don't know what Steve charges, but through the dealer, it is $300 for the part. As far as labor, I have heard rumors that it can take 6-8 hours to install if you have never done it before, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. So labor could get very pricey.

1 hour to install the parts but if you want some sneaky location for the Nano or Mini then it would take a little longer to do that.

That makes more sense. I haven't seen a tech do one yet, but I was told of a tech at another dealer that took 8 hours the first time on a 211 and he said it would take him at least 6 to do it again. Maybe it wasn't done right though.

I just can't believe a $50-60K car can't have a color matching sat antenna. Even a $20K Honda has them.

Sad...

Here at the dealer it took a senior tech 7 hours for his first install.
The instructions are 46 pages long.
I would love to meet the guy that can put in a M.B. kit in 1 hour!!!
must have been an F.M. modulated kit.
