It's the US government and their civil servants dictating things that they know nothing about. We have had to live with stupid things like sealed beam headlights and frontal crash tests just as an example. The Feds made Daimler-Benz remove the great Euro headlights from the W124 and replace them with useless headlights.

Using HOH’s car for comparison, I see a difference in the side mirrors particularly there doesn’t seem to be evidence of the LED turn signal; the grille, wheels, and exhaust more than likely attributed to a sports package; and the rear quarter wheel well flare (however this might be caused by reflection). Where’s the interior shots?!

The driver's side mirror was about $230.00, Yes; I did not type it incorrectly. When it comes to these things I really don't care how much they cost and simply dish out the cash. Part number A 2118100321. Maybe you can still order them here and even cheaper. . .

The passenger side mirror was about $38.00 since it is only heated and not polychromatic like the driver's side. Well, I don't have the part number for this one since I see that they really never charged me for it. How nice of them! I guess I should not say that they are too bad over there in Aachen Germany.

The driver's side mirror for the Audi was also about $38.00 since it too is just heated.

Replacing the mirrors is really just a snap and it only takes a couple of minutes. I must say though, these are wonderful and really DO eliminate the blind spots. Not to mention, the passenger side mirror does NOT have that retarded disclaimer that says "objects in mirror are closer than they appear." All my foreign guests always ask why that is there.

I could not agree with you more. I found the C pillar rather large on this E and therefore I am totally happy with the purchase of these mirrors. My Audi S6 has wonderful 360 degree visibility and I still find the mirror wonderfully useful on it.

If you decide to buy it, please tell me how much they ran over here in the States. I purchased mine in Germany because I was there and they know exactly what I am talking about since that is the kind of mirror they have there. But, I have purchased a Euro only part at my dealer here in Colorado. All I needed was the part number. I ordered a basket for the full size spare tire. This way I have either one of my winter tires or one of my summer tires as a spare and with the basket nothing gets dirty. It is just like the one I had on all my other MBs.

I also got a factory spec. sheet with all the exact details of my car. It is amazing how many extras are standard here in the US yet some nice things that they have in Europe are not to be had here at all.

As my opinion, I don't like the new S-class W221. The designers were totally influenced by Maybach shadow. Lost its own carisma orginated from S. The new S-class just look like a Japanese car. (The new Acura even better than W221). I'm glad as my W211 design has been so great, full of European curve style in every detail part.

Yes that looks like the 333 sports package due out in November. Looks alot like the bimmer wheels. it's not going to have nothing to do with AMG anymore. nothing special...going to use the appearence package front and rear bumpers. the 4matic can get this kit also.

That's in the same general price range that ANY powered/heated mirror will cost you. I've replaced a couple over the years on various manufacturer's cars. The most expensive was a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP mirror at $325, and the cheapest was the power (not heated) mirror on a Stealth at $125.

$230 for anything from MB is a shockingly good deal.

I'm new here by the way. Been lurking for a short while, but this is my first post

I am slightly bemused by the "spy shots" as you would not dress a car up like that unless you really had something that you wished to conceal. But I recently requested a brochure for the current E-Class (I live in the UK by the way) and I was sent an additional smaller brochure entitled "The new E-Class Sport".

The car in the spy shot looks exactly like the car in the brochure (well obviously asides from the bits you can't see ) So this has those same wheels, the same exhaust, and different front/rear bumper trim as well as different side skirts. It also has different brake calipers on the front and drilled discs/rotors. Inside you get metal pedals studded with rubber and nice looking mats. But it is just really the standard car dolled up.

Today's WSJ (page A3) has a story about DCX financial results, and says that "Separately, Mercedes is launching a new seven-seat sport-utility vehicle this year called the GL, and a new generation of its E-Class sedan, which in the past has been plagued by quality problems." So, if the WSJ is always right (if you don't believe me, just ask them) and the 2007 E-Class will be a "new generation", what can we look forward to for the W212 in 2009 or 2010? Ion-field flux-capacitor drive, with antigravity nacelles?

World Scoop pix look genuine. They have replaced the emblem in the grill, as I thought they would, to complement the S Class design. Made the grill wider at the top to accomodate it. I plan on measuring carefully, then getting a new grill with the emblem and putting in in my 05's, when available.

one thing i don't really like about the facelifts (CLK and E) is the way they make the two white strips on the tail-light into one. on the CLK in particular is used to be a really graceful "C" shape, but now it's quite generic. that's IMO

somehow, i also don't like the overly aggressive bumpers. methinks i'm hanging on to the original W211 until the real deal comes along :p

The steering wheel controls are different; hopefully they finally changed the radio present control. Also it now has white face gauges.

I just walked in the door from work, and as I was within 2km from my house I saw something rather strange, I saw the updated E class with only it's covering on the front, the back was 'clean' I didnt have a chance to take a picture (we were both in a round about).

The really odd thing about it was the test car was silver - all the test cars I've seen here in Stuttgart have been black. Even when I saw the new CLS almost 2 years ago in Boblingen it was black. When I saw the new B class it too was black. At first I gave thought that this just may be a normal W211 with a bra on, but I've NEVER seen a German put a bra on their car - I have to assume that it was the updated E.

Just saw martincy's post, I guess I was wrong, they do test in other colors.

I'll try to get pictures, I'm betting that the test driver lives in my town, so the car may be around.

These pictures of the blue car have a rear light that's rounded at the front corner, like the current rear light. The Lehmann pictures of the grey car in the snow, above, have a rear light that's pointed at the front corner. That would involve sheet metal changes, and makes me suspect that the Lehmann pictures are PS'ed.
