Why didn't you go to a junk yard & Cut that piece for your car, instead of ruining your own car? While you were there, you could have checked out the dash & windshield for blood, hair & teeth.

Isn't this a knee-jerk reaction that is a bit extreme? It would be easier to unplug the buzzer from the relay panel.

Yikes!
I think you could have remedied that at the seat anchor without sacrificing anyone's safety!!!

Aren't you concerned about being pulled for a traffic stop?

Effective Date July 3, 2003 - SENATE BILL 50: Primary Seat belt Legislation
The new law changes the Illinois Vehicle Code’s seat belt law from a “secondary” violation to a “primary” violation. Formerly, law enforcement officials could not stop a motor vehicle solely on the basis of a violation of the seat belt law. This law removes that exception, enabling law enforcement officials to stop vehicles solely on the basis of seat belt violations. The law provides that a law enforcement officer may not search or inspect a motor vehicle, its contents, the driver or a passenger solely because of a violation of this law. The law took effect immediately upon signing by the governor. Illinois is the first state this year to enact primary safety belt legislation and the 19th state across the country.

Gosh, and I was looking at getting suspender belts for my car. I was thrown out of a car in an accident many years ago, before seat belts, and I don't want to repeat that experience.

And I'm not sure how effective that clip is going to be even if someone does decide to wear a seatbelt. It looks a little to easy to me that in an event of an accident, that the belt will come right out of the clip, negating the reason why the belt was worn in the first place.

Seriously, in Aviation we always wear seat belts and request our customers to do the same... and frankly while it's safe to do so, I am willing to bet that the safety return of wearing a seat belt in a car is 10 times as high due to the nature of auto accidents..

No offense, RYNZ 00 CLK, but I guess I need to be the first (after responding) to ask if this is a hoax.
You're not serious, right?
If you are, I asked at a recent meeting of attorney locals who opined that 1) you can't sell your car (free of liability for the life of the car) unless the belts are restored; 2) you need at least $15Million in auto liability coverage if someone is hurt/killed due to your intentional removal of federal safety equipment; 3) your insurance carrier would probably try to deny coverage; 4) your insurance carrier would cancel you if they ever found out; 5) if you're ever involved in a serious wreck, the opposing attorneys will find you internet handles and review everything; 6) punitive damages probably wouldn't be covered by insurance and a judgment would follow you for 20 years; and 7) you need to replace the belts ASAP and follow the reprogramming advice on this board.
Those are my free thoughts (sorry I don't even suggest to give you legal advice) and you may accept it for what its worth.

Nice job, but you really are better to get the chime disabled if you are not going to wear the belt.
Fooling the car into thinking the belt is done up when it really isn't has some undesirable consequences.
Firstly, the airbags will require more of a bump to make them deploy. If the car knows you are not wearing your belt then it will deploy them sooner and faster to protect you better.
Secondly, if it thinks the belt is fastened, then it will fire the pre-tensioners which is a waste of time, money and noise if the belt actually isn't fastened.
It's such an easy thing to get the chime turned off, then you never need to worry, and everyone can make their own decision as to whether to wear their belt or not.

Although this won't help much but there is a easy and completely reversable way to do this. Just pull the seat belts behind the seats and clip the belt in, this way the chimes are stoped and you keep the safety restraints if you ever wanted to use it.

Guys like you make the world more treacherous (and expensive, as pointed out previously).
Get a brain, and learn how to conform to the basic rules of owning a car

I am glad that you do wear your seatbelt when you are on the highway, but you should know that the greater majority of accidents that cause bodily injury occur within a few miles of your home. Of course, if you get in an accident on the highway it would greatly help you to have your seatbelt fastened.
I am sorry that no one on this thread gave you any kudos for your action. I imagine that is disappointing for you. I see how this has obviously put you on the defensive since some posts have almost insulted your intelligence. I am sure that is not the way they were intended and I would look on the positive side and take it as if we are looking out for you.
You have a GREAT car and we all share this in common on this forum, we just want to make sure you don't get yourself into a liability issue or worse, kill yourself. I am saying this in a truly kind way and NOT in a derogatory way towards you, please understand. This thread does read like a strange car “intervention.”
Good luck and keep posting on this forum!
Steve
If by some reason you decided to change your mind and change the seatbelt so it is back to normal, please tell us too.

Yes, the majority of accidents are within 20 minutes from home according to a recent study. Last night I turned right onto a street 100 feet from my house and was confronted by an SUV on my side of the street comming at me at 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. Had I been going the speed limit of 25, we could have been involved in a head-on collision. Yes, I wear my seat even if I am just going a couple of blocks in my own neighborhood.

Hey guy.. we don't hate you, and we don't really think your a real idiot.. We actually wouldn't want to see you wind up like a some of the pics I've seen of people who got in car accidents with SUVs, etc.. and didn't wear a seatbelt.. it's not pretty, and your wife/mother/daughter should never have to see it.
You have the money to buy one of the best made cars, and safest cars.. don't castrate it!
