Mercedes-Benz USA Records 2005 Highest September on Record
MONTVALE, N.J., Oct. 3, 2005 -- For the fourth consecutive month, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported a record breaking month for sales volume. With new vehicle sales of 17,552 units, MBUSA records its highest September on record, bringing its year-to-date sales total to 156,244 vehicles.
The volume leading C-Class demonstrated a 3.6 percent increase over sales last September with 5,050 units sold. Other highlights include the strong sales momentum of the new 2006 M-Class, with an increase of 21.3 percent over September 2004. The month was also marked by a significant jump in SLK-Class sales, which increased 40.7 percent (857 vs. 616 units) for the month. In addition, the highly-acclaimed Mercedes-Benz R-Class recorded sales of 386 units in its first two weeks on the market; the vehicle's retail launch of September 14th marked the introduction of the new Grand Sports Tourer segment.

I believe (correct me if I am wrong) while US sales is strong as reported here, it is overall world wide E series production that is hurting. All is really unfortunate because the E has always been my favorite lux sedan. Now that they have recognized the problem, I trust this world class company is capable of righting the wrong. (I can't wait to order my CLS.)

For decades, the E-Class has been the nucleus from which Mercedes' entire model range radiates and, because of the numbers — about 300,000 sold annually — the model has been the company's greatest profit generator.
But hurt by the critical quality-degradation publicity, especially in Europe, sales of the E-Class have plunged this year, taking Mercedes into the red. Production for the first three months was down 32% to 56,615 units.

Yeah, we did okay, but Bimmer kicked our A$$ in total growth.
FRANKFURT (Reuters) - The world's two biggest luxury carmakers saw strong sales last month but despite a record September at DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes-Benz, the group was left behind by larger archrival BMW.
BMW increased sales by 11.4 percent to 131,705 vehicles in September thanks to robust demand at its core BMW marque, it said on Friday.
Sales of BMW brand cars and sport utility vehicles (SUV) rose 13.5 percent last month to 111,518 units, while Mini brand sales managed only a 1.0 percent increase to 20,112 cars.
In the first nine months, group deliveries to customers totaled 988,463 units, also a gain of 11.4 percent, as the company continued to exceed its own full-year forecast for growth of 9 percent.
Daimler's long dominant Mercedes Car Group continued to lose ground to its Munich-based competitor, as sales grew only 4.9 percent in September to 117,900 vehicles.
An 8.4 percent gain in Mercedes-Benz brand sales to 106,500 more than compensated for an almost 20 percent drop in deliveries at its Smart brand. Mercedes Car Group also includes the superluxury Maybach nameplate.
In the first nine months, Mercedes managed just an 0.7 percent increase in unit sales amid a slight decline in Mercedes-Benz deliveries and slowing gains at Smart with the ForFour on the market for more than a year now.
Mercedes has seen a steep slump in profits amid hefty losses at Smart and spending to fix quality problems at its crown jewel Mercedes-Benz.
In a drive to double its operating margin to 7 percent by 2007, new Mercedes chief Dieter Zetsche recently announced plans to cut 8,500 jobs in Germany over the next 12 months at a total cost to the company of 950 million euros.
This comes on top of a previously announced one-off charge of 1.2 billion euros to restructure Smart, which doesn't expect to break even until 2007.
Mercedes posted an operating profit of just 12 million euros in the second quarter after reporting a 954 million euro loss for the first three months of 2005.

Mercedes all the way!
hell_ona_harley: lol! ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
heh, who cares about BMW sales? toyota sells much much more but i'd never buy one unless they change drastically :p
i'm quite interested in how profits are doing. the wardsauto article is, i think, wrong, as Mercedes has never gone into the red even during the darkest days.
Mercedes needs new products and something to prove their reliability - people are starting to lose interest in "new" models very quickly nowadays, and always like to catch on to bad news.
amazing when you consider in Malaysia the national car company still sells cars designed in the 80s (yuck!). i don't know, but while i'm in the UK i still see E-classes everywhere, so sales can't be that bad. can't say about other european countries though - heard germany is a tough nut to crack?

Hi there,
954 million euro loss for the firsth 3 months. This is certainly not my field of expertise but fiscal year 2005 looks to be the first.

As for your point about the warranty's .. this is true and sucks for us as owners since they are very tight fisted about them now, and will more than likely try to nickel and dime us rather than do the right thing and fix an issue without cutting corners..
My dealer told me that they're cutting back significantly on how much they pay them for repairs for warranty, which translates to shoddier work for the owner.

[QUOTE=CE750]he's a member here that now drives a Lexus LS430 and keeps harping on MB.. some of what he says is true, but most of it is not in my opinion.. I just like to egg him on.. spice to my life.

He obviously moved on with LS430, so leave it be. I don't like the idea of you trying to urge people to light up a smoke near a barrel of gasoline.

How is this "good news"? THe E is DOWN over 14%!!!
Not sure how a 14+ percent drop in sales is a good thing. What I cannot remotely fathom is how the absolutely ghastly looking BMW 5 series is selling well.

That is a very interesting article. It really doesn't matter to me how many units MB or BMW sells, as long I as I am happy with my car who cares. I'd rather have less of the same cars as mine on the road anyway. As an aside, how many want to bet that 4,500 of last months units were sold in Southern California? :p
