New Member - E500 Owner
I just took delivery on a 2003 e500 and It looks like my car does not have the comand system. However, the original owner told me it is prewired for a mb phone.
1) How can I tell if I have comand?
2) How can I tell if in fact the car is prewired for a phone? Has anyone purchased the cell phone parts online and installed them themselves? If so, would you do it again?
That is it now. Any help will be appreciated.
PS. This car rocks!
You can get a UHI phone cradle for some phones installed. Steve can do this as well.
As for Phone... email Steve@MBenzNL.com and ask him.. he sells the phone for 1/2 the stealer price.

do me a favor and review in as much detail the two for us when you have a chance..
The weather has been pretty bad up here in Boston, so I have not really had a chance to test the handling. Give me a couple of weeks and then I will provide a complete comparison from my BMW.
PS. My wife has a XC90 and loves it. Do you like yours. I have tried to get her to switch to an X5, but she is not interested.
I can comment on the differences between E39 BMW and the W211. I had a 528i with sport package and 5 speed. I now have an '05 E320 (gas) with appearance package and premium package.
Here's my take: BMW feels more sporty. Rides like it's on rails and handles well for a large car. Not as nimble as I would have liked it to be but really corners well. Rides a bit rough.
E320 rides softer, even in sport II mode (I have Airmatic). Steering not quite as responsive as BMW, but not as bad as others on the forum seem to state. Steering is quite close, actually. E320 leans a bit more than BMW, doesn't feel like it's on rails the way the BMW does. But here's where it gets interesting: During spirited maneuvers, even though it doesn't feel like it handles as well as my '98 528i, it actually does! It really sticks to the road, big time, and while not quite as nimble, performs very nearly the equal as the BMW. For such a large car, the E320 handles remarkably well. It's about 300 lbs heavier than the 528i.
Overall, I have to say it's quite close, in spite of what I've read on this forum. I went straight from the BMW to the Mercedes and my gal now drives the BMW. When I ride in that car now (while she drives), I have to say that the Mercedes is remarkably more refined. Of course, it's much newer with more/newer technology.

XC = made in Sweden
Say no more!

Yes.. I love it, in hindsight, I should have waited the extra 2 months for the V8.. not so much because of the engine, but the transmission.. the T6 is BADLY hampered by the 4spd.. but over all a wonderful driving vehicle, and safe (as you know) as a bank vault.

2) Every US spec MB comes pre-wired for phone, meaning that it has a rear view mirror with integrated microphone and an antenna in the rear window. The phone parts itself, though, may not be factory fitted (PSE, cradle, etc).
For cars with MOST wiring - such as yours - we do not recommend self installing the phone kit, as it requires reprogramming through Stardiagnose after the job has been completed. Furthermore, since you have a 2003 model, you won't be able to retain Teleaid (if activated, that is).
