e500 vs S430

Your opinions please E500 vs. S350

Boss has had an a$$load of problems out of his '05 E500. MBUSA is offering S350 with incentives and dealer trade assistance at 56K. He still have to have to come out of pocket ~13K because the only want to give him 43K for his problematic E500. Other choice is getting another E500 at same 56K price.

He's not really concern about it being sporty and the bigger engine (I think).

no brainer then, get the S.

I like the E only because of the diesel... if the S were diesel, as I expect it will become.. I'd drive an S, cause as our friend Maci911 likes to say "S is always better than C, worship the S!!"

I would get the 350 and then debadge it. The last year models of any Benz is always classic in my book.

Simoan not to start a debate(cause I like any guy with 13K posts! ), but..

why de-badge? There is nothing embarrassing about driving a $70K car, S350 or otherwise..

Look up a member on the W140 forum called Maci911, and read about the de-badging mentality. Sad.

I know of a Billionaire that drives a CDI out here in Phoenix, and I happen to know that ***** Nelson drives one.. they're not taking of the E320 and putting on an E500 badge.. heck the two cars are hardly 5% apart on price anyway.

Update: Well they offered him the S350 at 57k, and gave him 44 on his E500 amd gave dealer trade assistance of another 5K. So he opted for the S350.

With the $5K cash to dealer incentive and the fairly low Invoice price on the S350, it's an attractive option. About the only thing I would add is a CD Changer.

It has one big advantage to me and that is a wheelbase that's 5" shorter than the V8's. This comes out of rear seat leg room.

The only problem is lack of power. I'd like to hear from someone that has driven the S350 to get an idea about it's performance.

I can't argue about no power but I wonder about the 3.7 liter version of the M112 being a gas guzzling engine, especially compared to the M113.

All Diesel Fleet !1983 240d stick,2005 E320 CDI Midnight blue, 2005 E320 CDI, Desert Silver, Kubota
S or E?

Had em both. S gives a slightly better ride and the seats are wider. If they drop a diesel in the S with the short body, it would be great.

Could you get a feel for how the 3.7 liter V6 performed?

The S is the way to go if he's not looking for a sporty ride.

Not really being in rear seat and him not being too much of an aggressive driver.

e500 2004
First, if performance is not an issue get either S430 due to size or 350 to save $$$. I would think the 2007 E 500 will have the new S 500 engine which is 388 hp, keeping the performance variance and hence value proposition between the 350 and 500 constant. Now it favors the 350.

Buy for comfort or performanc, you want both, get new S
