Hmm, 2007 is pretty far away for something that has been in MB's OWN cars for some time now. I was amazed that while driving a C-class you can choose in the MFD whether you want to scan presets or frequency through the steering wheel controls. I didn't think that the ability to change presets from the steering wheel was that critical, until I actually used it in another car, and was hooked.

We shouldn't feel all too left out, though. The brand new ML also does not allow you to scan presets either.

Yep, 10 minutes. The column stick just snaps in to the "blank" you already have on your column (looks like a nipple...). The controller snaps in to the trunk, under the liner. If you have Comand, the car is already programmed to work. If you install the phone, you need to have STAR updates.

I bought a complete, new phone kit on ebay for 110 bucks. I'm sure the dealer wants 10X that.....

Be careful with what you buy in secondary markets for this car. When I first had this installed my Motorola phone would act crazy if you left it in the cradle and then turned off the car for a while. If you left the phone in the car overnight, then you had to remove it and re-inset it before it would work correctly. (This was problem #1)

Problem #2 was that sometimes you sounded as if you were talking through a 4 foot pipe. People said that my voice quality was awful.

I brought the car back and the dealer changed everything. Apparently, these defective devices are still floating around!

However, linguatronic seemed to always work fine. So if that is all you want the system for, you can't really go wrong.

Linguatronic...

Can someone tell me (us) how exactly this thing works?

Also - rereading the response from Ursula, it seems they "justify" the way its currently setup by stating european's prefer to go to the next strongest signal vs. the next preset. I'm curious what some european forum members have to say about this. In my view, this is clear a flaw/bug which MB doesn't want to own up to, thus the email stating its not a malfunction.

I have a friend who's had a CL600 and most recently an S65, and a gripe he had was that the cars don't scan presets. Its obviously not just the E that has this issue. Shame on MB for letting something its customers want take so long to get corrected.

Now i'm rethinking wether to get the nav & sirius installed this year or to just wait for next year incase other changes are coming down the pike.

I still don't understand why they can't go back to the way the '00 W210 works. I can select preset or next station as an option from the steering wheel. This way you can jump from preset to preset when in your local area and switch to next station when travelling out of local area.

Nobody can understand it, except as a screwup by M-B that they aren't willing to acknowledge. If they acknowledged it, they would be under some obligation to fix it in a timely manner. That "explanation" by Ms. van Eijden (that Europeans like the selection of the next strong station when they travel beyond the range of their "preset" stations) is bogus. Americans travel, too, and when we do we probably travel farther from our "home" radio stations than do Europeans, but both Americans and Europeans spend most of their time in their home area where "presets" are the way to go.

agree. even my old bimmer (97 model) can make

1. preset stations (FM mode) and
2. the strongest signal stations (FMA and FMB modes)

work together perfectly (anyone has a bimmer knows it)

Why MB can't? Ms. van Eijden should hire programmers from bmw to fix this problem. (my cd chanel 0 does not join the rest of 6 cd channels to play music. I think this because of European as well.)
