Need quick answer - Motorola V710 works in W211?

I know I could probably search here, but there are lots of threads on phones. I need a quick answer as I will be speaking with dealer shortly.

Short story is that my v60 stopped working in the car, but worked great out of it. They tried to fix it, still didn't work in the car, then said they couldn't fix it and gave me a V60S. worked in the car but is HORRIBLE in places that my v60 worked great in. They swapped another 60S and same thing. When not on the road I work out of my house and my cell is my business phone. I'm literally having to run around the house or go outdoors to find a good spot. I literally feel like the guy on the verizon commercial - "Can you hear me now". I need to confirm if the 710 will work and if so, I will ask the dealer for that phone.

Thanks

Chris - I've had two V710s. Can't speak for bluetooth compatibility but I would just strongly recommend the e815 unless you need the analog tri-band feature of the V710. The V710 is the worst cell phone I have ever owned. Period.

I've had ~ four Motorolas, six Samsungs, two Toshibas, one NEC and probably a couple others I can't remember and the V710 was absolutely the worst for reception. ( I like cell phones ) The camera was awful as well. The only thing I liked about it was that the headset integration via bluetooth was pretty good.

aarggh, this sucks. I don't really care about fancy phones, camera's, etc. I just need a solid phone that works where my V60 always worked! I can't believe that 2 V60S are so much worse than the V60 was. I have no idea what i'm going to do. I guess I could just go look for a better phone, but that really pisses me off as I spent the $$ on the phone option.

Am I right that verizon will not activate the v60 any more due to the new 911 law? If they would activate I would just go buy an MB V60 from ebay and activate.

V710

My V710 works great in my 05 E320 CDI, now. When they initially installed it, I got better reception taking it out of the cradle. The problem was that some of the black boxes weren't talking to each other. One thought it was in Germany. The reception problem was initially thought to be a connection problem, ie bad cradle, etc, but in reality, it was that the phone wasn't set up for the US. Make sure your tech knows what he is doing. Now, my phone has much better reception in the cradle, than with the little phone antenna. The Benz system has a couple of antennas and a booster amp, to get the signal even in the worst of areas. Go for it. Hands free is great.

I know hands free is great. I already have it, mine just doesn't work anymore. Well, it seems to work in the car (only had new phone for a few days) but the new phone BLOWS in my house, which is where I work. The old V60 worked, my daughters phone works, and my wife's phone works in the house.

OK, then one more question...

Will or will Verizon not activate an older V60 (like the one I had)?

Chris,

I already emailed you regarding the upgrade to a v710 would require intalling a new PSE, removing teleaid, and installing comand if your car is a 2003. 2004 w211's don't require a comand as they already have them.

Cell phone reception in house bad

Not completely on the thread, but my v710 cell phone now works better in the car than the house. My house is in a marginal area for cell phone reception, so I added an antenna on top of the house with an amplifier to boost the cellphone signal and now it works great. Email me if you need details.

Yeah, but what gets me is that my older V60 worked GREAT in the house. I'm not in a marginal area. My wife's phone works in the house as does my daughter's. "Can you hear me now..." I swear, that's me when trying to use this phone in the house.

Sorry to get into this but, you are saying that if you already have the hands free with a V60 you need to modify all these things to get the new Motorola phone?

My car has a COMAND system already and I was told by my dealer that I could later get a new MB phone and a cradle and it would work just fine. Did they lie to me?

So far I still use my V60 (and I have another MB V60 as a spare, AT&T/Cingular model) that I use since TDMA is still much better than GSM in this area, but I sure don't want to give up Tele-Aid and stuff like that when I have to update phones.

Is this true?

Steve

the 03 and 04 E class cars have a combined teleaid and phone system in one unit. These cars are compatable with only the v60 phone and cradle. you CANNOT use the v710 or v600 MHI phones in these cars. You need to remove the telaid system, do some programming, add a new PSE and you are set for the newer phones. If teleaid is of concern, then I would suggest that you get the bluetooth interface coming up.

Interesting! We will see what is available when it comes time to retire from the TDMA and I switch to GSM. I have used GSM in Europe for almost 10 years; it is sadd that the system for GSM here is still very poor.

Thanks for the info,

Steve

Any idea when the bluetooth interface will be available for the 2003/2004 W211?
