I have the factory roller type side shades and rear power shade and very much recommend them. They are always in use and really make a difference for you and your passengers....

Hey Sun... can you add heated seats to a W211? What's involved? new seats?

Of course you can. There is never a "NO" to any retrofit. THe heated seat setup requires a switch row, harness, leather seat covers with heating elements built into them. Replacing leathers can be expensive. MBTEX is cheaper. The cheapest way is adding heating inserts under the leather although not as effective as the original elements which are very close to the surface of the leather, they do work fine. I did this in the rear of my car. Also, depending on what year your car is, you may require a heated seat control unit.

I've got the inserts, not full leather.. but I'd like to have it done for about $1000 or so.. am I dreaming?

Heated seats in Phoenix?

I'd rather bank the $1000.

I'm out visiting my mom in the SF Bay Area, and driving the E350 with the heaters, and it's killing me.. In phoenix, we get low 40's weather for a good solid 3 months from about now, thru Mar... for early mornings, and eves... it's not as useless as you think.. It's however, all but impossible to find a car in Phoenix for sale with them...

I'd have to agree with you on that. I have them on my G35 and also my E350... I think i've used them a combined total of about 6 times. One thing positive I would say about the MB is that I don't feel the heating element "cycling" on and off like it does on the infiniti. Not sure if it does on the MB, I would assume it does but it is very noticeable on the G. Almost feels like the seats cool down before the heating element will start again when it is set on high on the G.

Oh well, I guess the six times I used them it was worth it.

Since when is something you actually use a waste of money. There must be a dozen things in the house with a total value greater than the option which never get used.

I use a lot of things that are a waste of money. We all "waste" money to make things a bit more comfortable. A perfect example is your TV. Do we really need a tv in excess of 50 inches? Most people would say YES. Just like me. I couldn't imagine watching my favorite tv shows on a 25 inch tv. I think "waste" is the wrong word... but I'm sure just like most things, money can always be spent better.

So anyways... the six times I used my heated seats were totally worth it.

Adding the rear shades that roll into the doors is quite cost-prohibitive, but still possible. They sell aftermarket side shades that actually cover the whole side windows, but don't retract into the door, I have these and I am totally happy with them. I always have them up and I find it much better than tinting.

As far as the rear sunshade, I had one retrofitted and it is perfect! It was costly, but I had it on my 1991 300E and I was not going to have a newer car without it.

Still waiting on that side-by-side E vs G comparison.. I think it will make for some good debate/discussion.

When I have some time to come up with an "educated" comparison, I will definitely post something.

BTW, I posted a few better pics in the picture thread.
