If you take a look at the graphs, the drop in MB sales over the last few years is much more alarming then the increase in BMW sales. It's not as if BMW just picked up tremendous steam in the last year or so, but they are consistently selling more cars every year.

Customer service, having a broad lineup, and solid reliability are probably the most critical factors in customer retention. Unadultered brand loyalty doesn't apply to everyone.

You sure don't have to convince me....I drive a BMW and love it.
