Mystery button help

Hi guys,

I have a E500 W211 that is ex Japan so no manual.

I have managed to figure everything out to date but last night I found a mystery button that I can't figure out and thought you guys will be able to help

It is up by the read view mirror. It has a flap that comes down and it is a inch square red button.

My guess is this is for a garage door remote?? If it is how do I program it???

All/any help appretiated.

Cheers

In the states, the flap says S.O.S. and the red button is for an emergency call to TeleAid.

The garage door openers are the three small buttons next to the l.e.d. light on the bottom of the mirror.

On a US model, that would be the "emergency" or "SOS" call button for the TeleAid telematics system. Again using the US example, you would also have two TeleAid buttons in the center console for nonemergency roadside assistance calls - the "wrench" - and for information services.

I have no idea if a TeleAid system designed for Japan would work in NZ, since the system depends upon the local cellular network for its operation and that varies by country.

Thanks Guys ..... sounds like the emergency button is what it is. Yes it won't work here unless I change the cell phone unit to a NZ compat one and I don't think NZ has the SOS service anyway.

Mystery solved

It sounds like the SOS button here in the states.

EDIT: Oops, looks like someone already covered that.

Carry on...
