I don't think MB windshields are any different than other cars. My BMWs, Porsches, and MB have the same bad luck with rocks on the windshield. I need to have my E55's windshield replaced, a crack has grown a few inches. Bummer.
All of the cars you mention are German, but cars from other sources fare differently in my experience. We've never had the problem on any US car (Corvette, Cadillac), Japanese car (Lexus, Acura) or British car (Jaguar) that we've owned.
Again, makes me wonder if there is a German TUV spec that mandates a softer windshield compound for some safety reason.
you gotta remember at hwy speed you W211 with appearance (airmatic) is much lower than all of these vehicles. It also has a larger windscreen because of its slope, therefore more area for the gravel to hit. Luck plays into the equation as always too.
