Steering wheel buttons not working

I'm posting this here because there is more traffic, but all of the steering wheel button do not work, volumn control, menu changer, shift button ect. Now the multifunction display is locked to one menu. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Has anyone else experience this? Is it a easy fix, like removing a fuse or something. I hate going to the dealership. Any info is appreciated.

Service Campaign 2005060008 AUG05 - Programming battery control module (CLS VINs: A000205-A016000, A007370-A015997) comes to mind. The BCU erroneously evaluates the battery charge level as good when the actual charge level may be insufficient thus causing things to be **** down. However, I think it would be best for you to visit your dealer to find out exactly what's going on.

Someone posted previously about a fault on some sort of metal ring between the steering wheel and steering rack which maintained the electrical circuit whist the wheel was rotating. Sound as if it may be an issue for you to look in to.
