E500, what kinda rubber everybody got it on
By the way i just upgraded myself to 03' E500....My what POWER. Luv this thing....all i gotta do is just add wings, and i could be flying. If only my tires were in good condition my landing would be much safer.
My E500 currently has Toyo PROXES 4 tires. They wouldn't normally be my first choice of tires, but I got a set of them through unusual circumstances. The Toyos are moderately quieter and smoother-riding then the Continentals and have distinctly better handling. Most people seem to put Michelins or Pirellis on their W211, the choice of specific tire being a matter of climate and driving style.

The PZero Nero M&S are great tires, 4/5 on wet, dry, and light snow. They last a loooooong time. Supposedly their ride quality and noise levels are pretty good too - one of the best A/S performance tires. Most people compare them to the Pilot A/S as the best of the A/S's and best choice for year-round performance plus wear plus road comfort and noise levels.
I don't like the PZero Rosso's at all. Have had them on severla cars -- I take 'em off and either feed them to the fishes or line the kart track with them. Some people do like them -- but I just think that they don't know any better.
I thought that you were referring to PZero's -- performance tire. Sometimes the only tire you can fit on certain performance cars. Too soft for the mileage wanted in a 'not too expensive' tire request IMO.
And when you're talkin' tires you have got to be specific!
if all season is what you need, i think they are amazing!
wet/snow/dry............they have me as a believer.
Since the Pirelli's are softer than the Michelin's I bought the extended warranty for the tires from Discount Tires where I purchased them; however, no problems to date of any type. There is a Discount Tire Store neare where I live and they do a lifetime free rotation and balancing plus are careful with tourqe on each tire. I had a set of tires over torqued by my MB dealer on an earlier E-320 which led to some expensive repairs (paid for by the dealer) after they attempted a rotation and balance on my nickel at a routine service.
Let us know what you decide to go with and enjoy your "higher performance" E-500. Doubt that you'll ever buy another E-320 or 350.
Rim line: A line provided near the beads to allow inspection of how the tire fits with the rim.
On Aircraft tires they sometimes have a much more pronounced rib that they call a “flange” or a few other names that now escape me. This flange or lip help push water away from the sidewall when the tire is traveling at high speeds and heavy water. This is needed on some aircraft that have tire positioning that would allow the engines to get a lot of the tire splash. This flange helps deflect the water away from the engines.
I am sure that I might have misused some terms here, but this is what you get when you have so much useless knowledge bouncing around in your head like I do. I sometimes freak people out when I know something as useless as this.
Steve
I historically stick with whatever the oem tire is however my old benz came with Pilot Sports so with the contis you are forced to get something else.
I happen to like the rim ring, i hacked up my rims with my contis and with the thickness arount the rim, you can no longer see the scrapes.
The only thing i dont like about the pirellis are the rubber nubs sticking out of the tread, they are on the side wall and it looks funny for the first few thousand miles
HAPPY NEW YR TO ALL
