E500, what kinda rubber everybody got it on

Ok i'm so confuse, there's just so many to choose from. I want the handling but i dont want to deal with the road noise. Please help!
By the way i just upgraded myself to 03' E500....My what POWER. Luv this thing....all i gotta do is just add wings, and i could be flying. If only my tires were in good condition my landing would be much safer.

If your '03 E500 still has the OEM Continentals (like mine had), then replace them. Almost anything you replace them with will be an improvement. The Continentals are noisy and harsh-riding and have indifferent handling.

My E500 currently has Toyo PROXES 4 tires. They wouldn't normally be my first choice of tires, but I got a set of them through unusual circumstances. The Toyos are moderately quieter and smoother-riding then the Continentals and have distinctly better handling. Most people seem to put Michelins or Pirellis on their W211, the choice of specific tire being a matter of climate and driving style.

I have the proxes as well. Pretty good tires for the money. They break loose relatively predictably as well.

Mercedes
Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS-D3's for the summer.
Dunlop Wintersport M3's for the winter.

I absolutely love the Eagle F-1's and they're a lot cheaper than the PS2's.

I'm leaning towards Pirrelis Zero too. Tirerack has'em for $141. I think that's decent. How's Nitto NT-55?

Don't go with PZero's for your daily driver unless you have to for fitment issues....

Which PZero tires are you recommending against? PZero Nero M+S, or PZero Rosso? The $141 dollar ones are the All Season PZero Nero. I use these on my SLK350 and I am happy with them for year round use in Northeast Ohio. I have 19K on my E500 Continental tires and was planning to change them to the PZero Nero M+S at about 36K miles.

Good clarifying question
The PZero Nero M&S are great tires, 4/5 on wet, dry, and light snow. They last a loooooong time. Supposedly their ride quality and noise levels are pretty good too - one of the best A/S performance tires. Most people compare them to the Pilot A/S as the best of the A/S's and best choice for year-round performance plus wear plus road comfort and noise levels.
I don't like the PZero Rosso's at all. Have had them on severla cars -- I take 'em off and either feed them to the fishes or line the kart track with them. Some people do like them -- but I just think that they don't know any better.
I thought that you were referring to PZero's -- performance tire. Sometimes the only tire you can fit on certain performance cars. Too soft for the mileage wanted in a 'not too expensive' tire request IMO.
And when you're talkin' tires you have got to be specific!

I have nitto 555s on mine and the ride isn't really bad, but definitly worse than stock. Well maybe because i have 35 series tires? The tire isn't too costly tho and american tire will give you a lifetime warranty for an extra 24 bucks or something like that.

I've been a Michelin man for years, but decided to go with the PZero Nero M&S myself.... Got to say I like them (for the $$$) and I seem to be getting longer life so far from them too....Its a great "all round" tire, but only time will tell for sure as I've only have put about 8,000 miles on them so far. The only thing I don't like about them is the ridge of rubber at the side wall nearest the rim is not there and it helped me armoral the tires without getting the stuff all over my rims... Anyone know what they call that ridge that protrudes out???? or even know what the hell I'm talking about???

I'll add my vote for the Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S tires. FAR BETTER than the OEM Conti's or the Michelin's I've had on previous MB's. Look at the Tire Rack web site for good comparison tests and testimonials on many tires for the E-500 if you want to see more support for the Pirelli's. Not only are mine quiter with better traction in both wet and dry conditions but they do better than the Conti's in light snow as well.

Since the Pirelli's are softer than the Michelin's I bought the extended warranty for the tires from Discount Tires where I purchased them; however, no problems to date of any type. There is a Discount Tire Store neare where I live and they do a lifetime free rotation and balancing plus are careful with tourqe on each tire. I had a set of tires over torqued by my MB dealer on an earlier E-320 which led to some expensive repairs (paid for by the dealer) after they attempted a rotation and balance on my nickel at a routine service.

Let us know what you decide to go with and enjoy your "higher performance" E-500. Doubt that you'll ever buy another E-320 or 350.

I used to run Toyos on my 17s for my old prelude. Now they were some good tires. But Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S does sound nice, tirerack got'em for $141. I'm def. going to look into a local dealer. They better be just not noisy, thats one reason i hate sports exhaust, i need relaxation when im in the car.

What you are talking about is most likely the “rim line.” The definition is bellow. This is not very common on car tires but a must on aircraft tires. My Continental OEM tires on my W211 have this and I also find it useful when I clean the tires.

Rim line: A line provided near the beads to allow inspection of how the tire fits with the rim.

On Aircraft tires they sometimes have a much more pronounced rib that they call a “flange” or a few other names that now escape me. This flange or lip help push water away from the sidewall when the tire is traveling at high speeds and heavy water. This is needed on some aircraft that have tire positioning that would allow the engines to get a lot of the tire splash. This flange helps deflect the water away from the engines.

I am sure that I might have misused some terms here, but this is what you get when you have so much useless knowledge bouncing around in your head like I do. I sometimes freak people out when I know something as useless as this.

I've got E500 17" on my CDI, with MXM4's

I like em, but my next tires are going to be Continental Conti-Sport.

I have 3Kmiles on my PNero M&S and they are noticeably better in terms of ride and handling than the Contis that came with the car.

I historically stick with whatever the oem tire is however my old benz came with Pilot Sports so with the contis you are forced to get something else.

I happen to like the rim ring, i hacked up my rims with my contis and with the thickness arount the rim, you can no longer see the scrapes. The only thing i dont like about the pirellis are the rubber nubs sticking out of the tread, they are on the side wall and it looks funny for the first few thousand miles

I'm a member of the me too club

I went with the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S on my S4. The E320 will be ready for new shoes in the spring it is wearing Michelins for now. I had the PS-2 A/S on a previous car and loved them. The problem I have is the pricing but we'll see.

PIRELLI NERO ZERO M/S. Big improvement over Conti's and at 12k miles still a lot of tread left. Picked the little nubs off a few at a time after each wash.
