New E320 Diesel Will Have "Bluetec" Engines This Fall

The engine will be legal in all 50 states:

DC announced at the Detroit Auto Show that the GL will be offered with a diesel option too.

I've been reading about BLUETEC in the automotive mag's here in Germany for the last few months, but I'm still not sure what it is exactly. From what I've understood, the "CDI" badge will be replaced with "BLUETEC" on the rear of the car. THink it's an attempt to sell more CDI's to Americans.

Will the "bluetec" be the V6 motor?, if the sensotronic is gone and I can actually buy one new (50 state legal) it might be time to trade the CDI in.

Mercedes all the way!
BlueTec isn't the same as CDI. most importantly there is the AdBlue additive. it converts exhaust gases to nitrogen and water.

the good point is, it's very good for the environment. so there can be more powerful diesel engines which still meet emissions requirements. the bad point is, it will require the topping off of AdBlue every 6500km. which will be a pain in the *** unless all the dealers have it.

BlueTec isn't specifically linked to the engine (i think) so there will probably be both V6 and V8 versions.

Ad Blue?

I am SO happy to have my 2005 CDI's. Who in their right mind would buy a car that you have to add crap to the fuel supply? Here are the first two questions people will have:

1. How do I turn this M--R off?

2. Where can I buy cheap AD BLue?

It looks like too much lettering for the deck lid:
