On my 2001 E320 I got 31mpg a few times, and on my 2006 E350 I have gotten 30mpg. So clearly with the addition of the 7 speed transmission and new technologies built into the engine it gets great gas mileage for having quite a bit of power.

Our E350 is a 4Matic. Over Christmas, we drove as far west as Denver visiting relatives along the way. 4,160 miles, average 24.5mpg cruising at 70mph most of the time.

Using actual mileage, not the on-board computer. I got exactly 27 MPG on a 4,800 mile vacation with all kinds of driving from 80 MPH Interstate cruising to crossing 10,000 foot mountain passes. The computer seems to be a bit optimistic (1 MPG).

I've never gotten good mileage for urban driving in any car I've owned. I guess I have a lead foot.

Anyway, the cost of fuel is insignificant compared to depreciation and the cost of money to buy the car.

Id have to disagree with you on that. the e320 can get upto 25 mpg - 30 mpg regularly, where as the s430 gets in the range of 16 mpg regularly. That about a 1.25 ( NY gas) per gallon. that soon adds itself up pretty quick.

But it's still peanuts compared to the cost of depreciation and either the interest you pay on a loan or the earning power you'd lose on the money you spend for the car.

I will admit that I don't worry much about the cost of fuel since I'm retired and can take the golf cart to most of my destinations

Over 50,000 miles on my 2004 E320 I had 22.8 combined and a mixture of tires (snow and summer). In the last 5,000 miles I have 23.8 combined.
