2004 E-500 Transmission

Hello,

I have a question regarding the 2004 E-500 transmission. I heard from a friend that they were faulty and had to be replaced. Any truth in that? Any info or personal experience with the E-500 transmission. I am embarassed to say, but is it a 5 or 7 speed?

Thanks, you all have been great!

A small number of people are complaining about a rough downshift into 1st when cold on the 7 speed.
If you haven't noticed it don't sweat it. If you have noticed it, there really isn't a cure for it, but its not a "fatal" flaw.

I thought there were several TSB's to fix the problem of rough shifting. They are also using a new ATF fluid on the 7G.

Anyone with a problem should go to their dealer and ask that they apply all the fixes related to the 7G.

There were some E500's which had defective radiators. These leaked coolant into the transmission cooling line which screwed up the transmisssion. The transmissions were probably replaced when they were damaged. There is also the problem of rough shifting and there are fixes for this problem (new pan, etc.).

I think the cars with bad radiators were 2003's but I'm not sure.

I've got a 2004 E-500 with 7G and it is the most problematic thing. Been to the dealer about 6 times in 18 months, still have jerky shifting. They have replaced the tranny, then the valve body, then the pan, which then leaked out the whole fluid, had to do it again, s/w updates, but still jerky downshifting.

Any other ideas from anyone that has this problem solved? I'm about to write a lemon letter to MB.
